Grips

Anyone replace their stock grips or use any of the slide over foam grips?
Had a long trip and my hands were killing me. It seemed like I would have been more comfortable with a thicker diameter grip.
My previous motorcycle had bigger grips and I never had a problem.
I have seen some slide over that just go over existing grips but I was wondering how that would effect the heated grips in the winter.
Also, how hard is it to take off grips to replace with new ones. I dont want to mess up wiring underneath with the heated grips.
Thanks for any help.

A few guys here in the past have replaced their grips themselves.
You should try the overgrip type first..the heat should still get through.
To replace them you need to start at the end and cut peal..cut..lift..peal..cut..peal etc...being very careful not to cut the heating wires underneath.
I have used hairspray in the past to slide new grips on and once in place they stick..this on other bikes..not my BMW..but it should work just fine.
Maybe you are holding too tight..or need to let go and move you hands every few minutes..also maybe it's your gloves..are they new?
Good luck with it.

Grips-Simple Overwraps

I bought some Wilson tennis racquet overwraps at a Dixk's Sporting Goods store and wrapped them around my stock grips. The overwraps I bought had a foam pad running down the center of the wrap and provided a feel similar to gel gloves. They definitely increased the grip size and provided some additional comfort. I paid about $4.00 per package and it took two packages, one for each grip. I left them on for about 6 months and then went back to stock as my hands aren't real big and I felt the stock grip fit me better.
Very easy to do. I wrapped mine in a clockwise fashion, starting at the inside of the grip and working to the outside, with about a quarter of inch overlap on each wrap and finished the job with a 3/8 inch wide piece of black electrical tape. Took about 10 minutes to install and about 2 minutes to remove.
It might be worth trying.

You might like to try these:

They wrap around the grip with a velcro fastener to add about 3/8" to the diameter of the grips. Made from a wetsuit-like, 3/16"-thick, neoprene foam which does retard the heat from the grips somewhat, but can easily be removed if you can't wait for them to conduct heat to your hand.
They provide
some relief from hand cramps, but the best thing I've found is to just loosen my grip and stretch my hands ocassionally.

I use these. Very easy to install if you follow the directions. It takes a little longer for the grips to heat up, but they do get warm.

Oh yeah..One more thing about most aftermarket grips.
You will need to buy two sets..and use both right hand grips..(the larger ones)..or use watercraft grips..they're both the same size.

Thanks for the replies.
DJ, I think your right in that I probably grip too tight. I find myself doing that and try to make an effort of relaxing on the grips more. And thanks for the 2 sizes tip!
Anthony, I would guess that since the grips are made for BMW that the grips are the same size. They are definetly the rifgt price.
Thanks again to all!
