Telelever Caps Disappearing

I was missing one of the plastic dustcaps that cover the pivot bolt on the telelever arm. After ordering a replacement I noticed that it won't seat down all the way. It's on the RH (nut) side and looks like the end of the bolt is sticking out further than it should.
I'm afraid this one is going to disappear also. But I'm more worried about why that bolt would be poking out so far.
Anyone else seen this before?

You need the rubber o-ring that goes with it. They don't tell you that when you buy one. Its a separate part item. Ask for it!
oops! I just reread about the bolt protrusion problem. Mine is sort of like that too. I've never had mine off but you can take that out to lube the telelever pivot divot. There must be a way to adjust the length of that thing sticking out.
o-rings!

I hadn't noticed the o-ring in the parts diagram. That would probably make up the distance and let it seat squarely.
Maybe I'll just take the other one off and save myself two bucks!

Kept losing mine as well. Finally replaced them with nice (but expensive) machined caps from BMW of Santa Cruz (URL:

Here's their little spiel: Replace the dull plastic Telelever caps with these precision made aluminum end caps from Wunderlich. The Wunderlich caps look great while protecting the pivot bearings and are sealed with an o-ring. These precision machined parts feature a small vent hole that prevents the cap from pushing out as temperature or air pressure behind the cap changes. Available either chrome plated or with a silver anodized finish. Either way, a nice detail to bring your bike that much closer to perfection.
They are very nice looking and haven't popped out yet (over 6 mos on bike).

oh - don't worry about the spindle coming out past the nut - there SHOULD be a cycle or two of thread showing past the nut - that's good engineering practise.

OK, anyone REALLY need a pair? I know they must be a fairly cheap item(as far as BMW parts go).

How much can you donate to the site $5,$10?
