Greetings! I picked up my new R12R last week and so far I'm really enjoying it except for the seat. OUCH. Unfortunatly unlike my previous K12S this is a 30 minute seat :-( I'm pretty sure it's the standard, not the low so I'm wondering if the high seat is better, I could also use the leg room. I'd like to find at least a tempory off the shelf solution before going the custom route Mayer, Russell, etc. All opinions appreciated :-) As for Farkles ( where did that expression come from) I've only gotten my Valentine One and autocom installed. Waiting on a Remus pipe, clear lenses, cyclinder head protectors, and a Powerlet outlet and harness. FWIW my R is black with pinstripes, heated grips, center stand, computer, ABS, sport screen. I too, am on a Black w/Pinstripes! I have the standard seat, and I agree, I was only good for less than an hour at a time, until......

I bought a Large, Ultimate Gel Pad + Memory Foam + Sheepskin from these folks

It's about an inch-and-a-half thick, so it brings you up to about the "high" seat level (approximately in line with the pillion area of the seat) which eased the pressure on the knees (I'm 5' 12-1/2" with a 32" inseam) and is really, really comfy. Now my riding buddy and I stop about once an hour - so he can have a smoke!

And it's removable for just scooting around town, where having both feet firmly planted, even in steep road crown situations is desirable.

I'm not sure where "Farkles" came from, but my collection is slowly progressing. SW MOTECH engine bars/crash guards went on today and my tech and I have been discussing the work that will go on during the storage season.

I'm apparently the exception. If I wear LD_Rider underwear (supporting and seamless) - the stock low seat is good for at least 4 hours for me. If I need more than that - I put on my air-cushion - FreedomAir http://www.starcushion.com/consumer.php (correct link now..)

This makes my stock seat an all-day 8+ hour seat. Properly inflated, it only raises me about 1/2" in the seated position, and almost nothing when stopped and feet are down (important since I have a rather short inseam..)

Good thing - and if you decide you hate it - they regularly sell on Ebay for close to what you buy them for new (go figure..) from FreedomAir.

Welcome. I feel your pain. That said, I just got back from a 2300 mile trip to nova scotia with the stock seat. To my surprise, it wasn't all that bad for me, and I think I will live with it. I think the stock seat does "break in". You might want to go with the less expensive fixes, like various pads or covers before you spend the big money on a replacement seat. Great bike, huh?

I use a Airhawk....very comfortable.

Like you I came off a K1200S and was in pain after just 30 minutes or so of riding the R12R. However, after 2000kms it is much more comfortable - I don't know if it is my body that has adapted or if the seat is adjusting to my body. Either way it is alot better and so I no longer have an aftermarket seat top of my accessory list.

The leather seat is nicer than I thought it would be. In the twisties I can slide my butt (also in leather) off to either side without that tacky stickyish feeling the stock vinyl seat had.

I am waiting for my Mayer seat to arrive. I've tried the standard and tall seats: No thanks. The problem isn't that I didn't wait for the seats to break in, the problem is the seats are too narrow. I guess I have a wide stance.

I can confirm the standard seat getting better with time.
Seat replacement was top on my list - I was just waiting for the Wunderlich people to come out with an Ergo seat for this bike - but now I find I can do four hours of Black Forest corner surfing with just two short breaks for filling up the caffeine level and then putting the coffee away and still not feel uncomfortable.
It seems to me that the seat gave a little in the rear part of the front section and I can now sit well back with a good knee angle.
(Of course the bar risers help in doing this without back pain...)
So maybe patience is all you need.

I also think the stock seat sucks. Alaska Leather sheepskin worked for me and the Boss !

BTW: The pinstripes cause air drag. Its not the fastest color. Sorry!

My Alaska Sheepskin turned the stock 30 minute seat into a one hour seat. I am going for a Russell Day Long.

I have a brand new zero miles stock seat I'd like to trade for a stock low seat Uused is ok, but should be MINT), it likely much more comfortable, but I believe I'll need to be closer to the ground as I am only just over 5 feet, so this bike is already very tall for me.
