BMW R1200R R1150R/T F800 K1200R R1100R/T R1250R RnineT Message Board

I have recently purchased a 1996 R850R. One of the reasons I chose this machine was that I had hoped to begin doing some of my own maintenance never having done it before. I do not have a great deal of experienc but am hoping to learn.

When I purchase the bike the previous owner had said that the bike had special nipples installed that would make bleeding the brakes more convienient. I didn't get more details at the time of purchase. In an email to him after the fact he said "they act like a one way valve and do not allow any air back into the system". Unfortunatly the man has now left the country and is unavailable for further comment. My question is, how can it be a "one way valve" and not allow fluid to leak out every time you brake? It would seem to me that you would still have to go through the normal procedure of loosening the nipple, allow fluid to come out then retighten refill reservoir etc. etc. etc.

Any help or comments are very much appreciated.

I expect that you are correct. I checked out the site and it sure appears as if this is the item. The explanation of having to back them of 1/4 turn is the piece of info that I was missing. It all makes sense now.]
