a difficult decision . . .

Well....I traded in my 04 R for an 07 GS (granite/grey)
My last ride on the black steed is tomorrow to drop it off at the dealer for the last time.
The factors that contributed to this decision are:
- my trans shaft failed twice. I'm not 100% confident it won't happen again (they never did pin-point the cause). This is the main reason for looking at other bikes and brands even though BMW has looked after me well on both instances.
- the recent performance of the CAD$ has caused price reductions across the line (including the R12R).
- additional discount for a repeat BMW customer.
- the R1200R, IMHO, is less suited for 2-up trips then the 1150R - and I do a lot of these.
- BMW gave me an attractive trade-in against my R , even with 70k km on the clock, and the shaft history of this particular bike.
I love the R. It has carried my butt 70 km. 69k of it in sheer riding bliss. It carried my wife and I across Canada twice as well as dozens of weekend trips. It will be missed. But we'll have different adventures on the GS starting this spring when I take delivery.
This board has been the most informative and entertaining of the few I frequent and participate on. I look to this board before consulting with dealers.
I'll keep popping on to read what the members have to say about the R and the sport in general. Hopefully I can also pipe in on some posts to share my R experience with other R riders.
Cheers all
