Dyno run on a Beakster

Post by Byrdguy »

Took my 02 R1150R to a local shop that has a dyno and an exhaust "sniffer" to dial in my Techlusion. I installed the Techlusion pretty much when the bike was new to cure the "non existent" surging, which it did. I recently installed a Remus Y pipe and C F can along with a C F high flow intake snorkel and "Blue" filter element. The bike ran fine, but I wanted to see if I could make it better with some tweaking. It was pretty close, but slightly rich. After about 4 or 5 runs with pot tweaking in between I got it leaned out and running better. Final numbers were 83.7 HP and right at 100 ft.lb. torque. Not too bad, I'd say. The numbers would possibly be higher if there had been any ram air effect in play. High speed air flowing through the intake system definitely would be a plus. The bike is extremely quick and feels stronger than before.

Sory, DJ, I don't have the wherewithall to post the graph. Power wheelies are out of the question also, I don't have the wherewithall (make that skills) to ride on one wheel, but I don't have a problem zinging it through the cogs on occasion!! It goes like stink!!

Yep.....I did the very same thing, a few years back and obtained 83.9 hp on a dyno jet. The bike had more pep and pulled clean and hard to the redline.

My set up was:

Two Brothers Racing (TBR) cat eliminator and can.
Tedchlusion at factory settings
Original air filter
3 degrees timing advance (just about all that can be had)
Autolite 3923 single electrode plug
89 octane gas

I also baselined the bike and it came in at 77 hp before the mods.

Enjoy.......

Yeah, and some say more can't be had with mods on these bikes!!. A 12 HP gain is pretty good. My timing is about maxed out also, but I forgot to mention it. 93 octane in mine with the original spark plugs @ 14500 miles.

I thought these bikes were supposed to be 85 hp from the factory. Perhaps I'm not remembering correctly. And I'm too lazy at the moment to look it up. Keith

I believe that 85 is at the crank and not RWHP.

Byrdguy is correct, the factory spec is 85 at the crank.

Normally these bikes have a loss of about 15% througn the transmission and diferential.

So, in my case the baseline RWHP was 77 hp X 1.15 = 88 hp at the crank, a bit higher than the spec, do remeber that the dyno's do have diferences and the engines do too.

After the mods the reading was 83.9 hp x 1.15 = 96 hp at the crank.

Yeah, I thought that seemed high also, but that's what the dyno said. I don't know if the dyno was calibrated, or even if it can be calibrated, but the HP seemed right. It does seem puzzling.
