hello,

this may not seem ideal for most people but...
i've been wanting more of a sportier riding position for the rock. i've been riding her fairly hard lately and i've been feeling like i want more of a forward position. i was wondering if the handle bars from an R1100S fit on the rockster? looks like the triple tree is about the same as they use the same size wheel. the rock'ss probably a bit more top heavy and weighs a few lbs more. the paralever's a bit longer on the rock and the R11S uses a steering dampner.

what do you guys think? would it heavily compromise the handling and steering if i tried this? maybe i'd have to change out the paralever as well. or would it work with just replacing the handle bars? i think it would have a more "sporty R1100S" feel versus a "sporty GS" feel.

what do you think? is this a preposterous idea?

I don't think it's going to work. The 1100S has clearance areas on the gas tank to allow the clip-ons to clear at full steering lock? On the Rock you would be banging into the tank wouldn't you?

have a closer look - the S and Rock have a different setup under the top yoke.

The S has the bars which appear to have the top of the tube integrated into them - the Rock has something different.


You could probably get a sportier position by using either some "Ace" bars or some adjustable bars, like the Laverda Jota used to come with (I've thought about this myself, but decided that it was too much hassle for not enough return).

hey guys, thanks for the input...as always. yes, i do believe they would hit the tank. but there's riser's i could buy that would clamp the bars from above. check it out. i'm going to try and contact them and see if they know if they'll fit and clear.

An interesting idea but I would seek more advice from people who have done some modifications. I don't know any company who offer a similar set up for the Rocker but I am no expert.
I changed the bars on a Triumph speed 4 to a higher more set back bar and the handling went so light I nearly killed myself.
You may find the reverse and steering may go too heavy by fitting lower forward bars.

Not sure on the bars, but I did like the photo of your windscreen. Where did you get it? I have the BMW touring screen on mine now, and could use a bit more coverage.

i got it from wunderlich. but it's the smallest they make and probably not much more coverage than the touring screen. but they also have a size up as well. i wrote a post/pics on it here and where to buy it. scroll down towards the bottom of the page.

I'm also looking to modify my Rockster to a more sporty model... Any news on sporty handlbars?
Has anyone ever tried to mount R1100S backside or R1200S backside?

1) seeing you have a bike with sporty handlebars, I suggest you leave the rockster the way it is. Much less strain on the old wrists.
2) I have a smaller Wunderlich screen on my bike but it is not adjustable
3) the photo showing the inside of your garage is very interesting. Looks like you have got lots of tools and equipment. Why not show us a better photo?
