First ride

Just got the beasht home and taken her for her maiden voyage under my command. Wow what a bute, handles really well, got her up to 85 on some straight stretches and she loves it. Only problem wasgetting back into first, was having to juggle a lot with the friction zone to get her back in. Apart from that i am enthralled and looking forward to many rides in the future.
Thanks to everyone here who helped me with sound advice.

Congrats on your new bike. Remember that practice makes perfect and by all means ride safely.

Sometimes at stoplights I have to roll forward and back just a little to change gears.

Irishbiker,
I've found that when shifting from neutral to 1st, with the bike stopped, I usually have to roll the bike backward by just a small amount (a couple of inches) to get it to go into gear. My impression is that this is fairly normal. I love the R, but the transmission, IMO, is a little weird (this issue and the klunky shifting). But my understanding is that the transmission is also very durable, so I can live with the minor shifting annoyances.

Snap. Need to roll forward a little too to get first when stopped at junctions etc. But what the he*l it's a great bike and part of the character of riding a R

Try letting the clutch lever out a little while applying downward pressure on the gear selector.
I find that 1st gear selects everytime this way and without the embarrassing agricultural clang that used to acccompany first gear selection.

I blip the throttle with the bike out of gear, seems to work.
Congrats on the new bike!
