Beemeridian....that was a very touching story. Thanks for sharing what must have been a very difficult journey. We seem to take for granted our health until we lose it. For some it makes us appreciate our blessings even more, your certainly one of those people! Keep on truckin!

But I would give consideration to Beemeridian's experience before going under the light.

I've considered this procedure a few times, and have friends who have have done it with satisfying results (they say), but I know that my glasses have saved my sight on at least three occasions from flying broken drill bits, wire wheel splinters, and a bird striking my windshield at 60mph and shattering it in my face, and now feel that wearing glasses is a small inconvenience compared to being blinded.

PS Sounds like you got yourself a great spouse there, remember to tell her how beautiful she looks when you come out of the procedure.

Beemeridian, just give it another 10 years and they'll be growing them in petri dishes. People will be popping them in and out just to change the color.

Its kind of amazing to think that medicine has only really significantly improved in the last 60-70 years or so. Think of all the amazing things they can do now, and think about how close we are to a whole slew of new techonlogy. Its coming! We're living in a great time of human evolution.

Sorry if that was a little off topic Shaman, but I think about this sometimes and seemed an appropriate time to mention it.

+1 more vote. My mom had this surgery after looking behind glasses for two decades. Seven years later, she can still see fine without glasses.

I appreciate the feedback.
I had a small windfall in the late 90s and considered it then, but the reports of people was mixed.

I started considering it a couple years ago again and have yet to come across someone who has had issues that have had it done in the last 3-4 years.

My uncle even had each eye done to give both near AND far vision.
He does a lot of driving though and in the winter the snow falling would force his eyes to refocus and compete with each other. A unique circumstance since snow is 'solid' but can appear 5 feet and 50 feet in front of you at the same time. They actually were able to change one eye to match the other and give him far vision with no side effects.

As for the protection that my prescription glasses provide me....
Luckily whole industries have cropped up to protect 'good' eyes.
It would be far cheaper for me to wear safety goggles, helmet visors, and non prescription sunglasses than for my prescription glasses get wasted and need to be replaced.
