first, sorry for another 'stich post... but i searched and did not see my issue addressed, so i hope those with experience can help sort me out.
i'd really like to begin commuting more with my bike. i live in san diego, and it does actually get cold in the mornings and evenings. i'm currently using a bmw jacket/overpants combo over my work clothes and it just takes too long to get in/out of the combination, especially the pants. so i've decided to get the roadcrafter. only question remaining is one-piece or two-piece.
i'm 6' tall, 203 lbs., wear a 46 jacket and 35 pants. the one piece that fits my chest has a 40" waist. seems like it would be a tent. if i go to the two-piece, i'd have a better match of jacket chest and pants waist/length, but the jacket would have the same 40" waist issue. i'm concerned that when i zip the jacket/pants together that i'd have the same issue as the one-piece, but with the additional problem of a 10" gap in front where the zipper does not go all the way around. this might let air in the front and i'm not sure it would be any better than the one-piece.

so...any advice from you folks? i'd be most grateful if you could share your experiences. thanks in advance.

Limited experiences:

1. One piece is sized very close to the proportions of a good fitting business suit. If you get the correct chest, waist, inseam you also get a proportional neck, shoulder, sleeve, torso, hips, thighs, and ankle fit. My experience is that such a fit works over one layer but gets tight quickly over additional layers. I have gone up a suit size to get a good cold weather one piece fit.

2. Two piece is sized a touch larger in the jacket but still close to the business suit proportions overall. The jacket/pants combo requires two extra steps to don and doff. If you skip the zipping together, the drape is still adequate in the regular and long jackets to provide coverage and protection.

3. The Darien jacket is sized for larger chested and disproportional torso to leg shapes. Combined with the Darien or Roadcrafter pants it is a good cold/wet weather combo. A touch less convenient and probably not better than what you are using now.

What is worth doing, if you haven't already, is to fill in the online sizing tool at the Aerostich site. Give good fresh measurements as they instruct - include additional measurements for neck, shoulder, sleeve, torso, etc. You'll get an email from Sandy or Theresa in 36-48 hours that either recommends a standard fitment or invites you in for a fitting in Duluth.

I have had both. It is hard to beat a one-piece for easy on/off and seems to be an ideal commuter suit. I eventually got a two-piece however due to fit issues. I could not get the one-piece to be big enough in the chest for layering without being too baggy in the waist and butt. I got a jacket and pants setup with the jacket one size larger that normal for the pants and it worked fine.

That said, if you keep the two-piece zipped together, it does not work too much differently than the one-piece and still gives you some sizing options!

I wear a short Roadcrafter jacket and long Darien pants. Went this route because a 1-piece Roadcrafter doesn't fit without expensive customization. I've tried a 2-piece Roadcrafter but found no time savings getting the thing on over the Roadcrafter/Darien combo. And the Darien pants are more versatile - I wear them with a mesh jacket on occasion. This being said, I still hope to have a custom 1-piece someday.

It is always difficult to buy these type of things without trying them on, I would call and see what there return policy is.
That being said, I would opt for the 2pc, There are many times when I will wear the jacket with different pants, One thing to keep in mind is that, although the "Stich" is a great suit, it does get warm, and with the two pc one can switch to a lighter pant as summer starts to heat up, In fact in the heat of the summer I switch to mesh, the Stich is just too warm, Good Luck Den
