And I hate it.

I think it looks great, but the minute you pass 40 MPH, I get horrible wind blast right on my head. The noise is enough to make you want to fall off the bike just to make it stop!

I am 6'3", and I think I may be a little bit too tall for this shield. I drove 3 miles at 55 MPH and it was horrible - I can't do it.

Considering I special ordered this from Chicago BMW, I have a feeling they aren't going to accept a return on it, especially not after I installed it on the bike.

Has anyone else had this same problem?

I’m 6’2 ish and noticed the same thing as you described at speeds above 60 mph, I guess that after a few thousand miles I learned to tuck-in behind the screen a bit to prevent the wind blast. Whenever I ride two up over any real distance or the temperature is above 60 I take the screen off.

To be honest I’m not that big a fan of the screen, but it’s a life saver during the freezing morning commute.

I just snapped a few pictures. And I spoke with ChicagoBMW, and they can't take it back after it's been mounted. I can understand that though.







It was a bad day actually. I topped off the brake fluid reservoir for the rear brake, and some dripped onto the swing arm and stained it:



And then my heated vest (the on/off switch) seems to have scraped off some of the paint on the tank, and of course BMW doesn't sell a touchup for the matte black anymore:

I guess I will have to post the windshield FS in the classifieds and someone short can buy it.

Sorry to hear about the unhappy experience. Someone will buy it though. I have similar dimensions and found the wunderlich trimm screen works pretty well. It puts a bit of a blast under my chin, but does take the edge off chilly days. It (and the hand guards) will be coming off in another week for summer.

6' 3" here. I just trimmed my down... takes the load of the torso, leaves my head in the breeze. I think that's the best compromise. I always wear earplugs, but that's simpler than dealing with the direct wind blast, to the head, from the full fairing.

Try using some rubber washers or spacers between the windshield and the upper mounts. I raised mine about 1/2" and found that it shifts the turbulence above my head. I used longer screws, which you can find at any hardware store. A Laminar Lip may also be a solution for you, but my method is a lot cheaper.

I put the Laminar lip on mine and helped dramaticly. I am only 5'11' but have raised the seat 1" as well.

It does kind of make it look the Queen Alien but what the hey.

I have tried the Laminar Lip with my touring screen and it didn't really have the effect I had hoped for. How far above the top of the shield did you mount your lip? I mounted mine how it shows in the picture and have been wondering if raising or lowering ot would have more effect. I have noticed in pics of other bikes that the lip is mounted very low. Even lower than the top of the windshield. I think mounting as high as possible would be best.

What results did you find?

Yes i mounted as high as I could. Let me say it is still not perfect but it raised the wind to the top of my helmet not square in the face.

Again still some wind noise and all but like I said a BIG improvment for me at least.

i have risers/bar backs so i am sitting higher as well. i added on to my Guzzi's tourning fairing with good results as well.

That's what I was thinking. I'm gonna mount it up as high as I can and see how it works. I don't use it much in the summer anyhow.
