Bypassing the CAN-bus by direct wiring the accessory plug

I have a bunch of heated gear that I know will NOT work with the accessory plug as wired. I do NOT want to buy all new BMW heated gear.

So I thought I might wire the accessory plug direct to the battery.

Has anyone tried this - does it work? Are there any drawbacks?

Actually - someone will remember the link - there is a kit to do exactly this. It has no downside except the outlet isn't switched with the ignition, and some people think that is a plus actually. Now to remember who makes the kit...

My dealer did that before I picked up my '07 R12R at no cost. It's a really easy switch or so they told me.
So yes it can be done.If you're buying new just get your dealer to do it for you.

Having it on all of the time is a plus for me. I can charge my ipod at rallies.

My dealer keeps insisting that the accessory plug works with Gerbings gear as is - I know that it doesn't. I froze my b*&tt off last year because it didn't.

I will get it rewired before I pick up the bike.

Thanks for the help.
