What is standard and what is an accessory

Trying to work out what to get on a new R1200R and I'm having problems working out what is standard equipment.

I want -

R1200R in "Night Black"
Heated Grips
Stainless Steel Exhaust (not Chrome)
On-board Computer
Anti-lock Brakes
Anti Skid Control (ASC)
Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA)
White Indicator Lenses - possibly LED type
Tinted Sports Windshield with matching Black Mounting Frame.
Centrestand
High Seat
Large Pannier Mountings with Luggage Grid
Black Plastic Cylinder Protection (Small)


May drop the ESA if the total is getting too high.

Which of these is standard equipment and what do I pay extra for? I'm in Australia, so almost anything other than the one off the floor is a custom order I think. Don't mind the wait but I want to get it with what I want, not what the dealer ordered.

Out of all the things on your list the only thing you don't pay extra for is the stainless can and the seat. Here in the U.S. the bike you want would go for almost $17,000.00. I would omit the ESA and get TPM instead. BTW, midnight black is available on special order only for '09.

Yeah, in big hot Australia it seems impossible to buy a BMW roadbike without heated grips. Strange.

I got mine off the floor at Procycles St Peters. I found it worthwhile to look at floorstock and accept a balance of what I wanted and what I'm indifferent about. I went in looking for a black R without ABS for as little as possible. I settled on a grey one with computer, clear lenses, chrome exhaust, sport shield and centrestand for no added cost. All because the bike was floorstock.

I would have preferred the satin exhaust too but I find it doesn't matter if you don't wash the bike. Computer, screen and centrestand were freebies.

One other thing - I wish I told them to take the horrible Bridgestones off and put Metzler's on. Apparently they are happy to swap out tyres to clinch a sale.

Agree! Mine from Procycles Hornsby (but deal done at St Peters) - they swapped tyres to Z6s for free - as well as fitting lots of aftermarket accessories (including Wilbers shocks front and rear). Couldn't fault them - althougth the owner later told me my saleman was costing him money with these deals.

Yes, heated grips are standard and the seat is no charge. All else is expensive ...

If you're buying the rack, make sure you don't get pannier (only) mounts.. BMW Australia was fitting them to a lot of R12Rs, but you then have to throw them away because the rack has integrated pannier mounts. Procycles specified their bikes without pannier mounts to avoid the problem.

One other thing - watch your insurance on a well-spec'd R12R - most Aussie insurance companies do market value on the base bike - which is a lot less for an R12R with ABS etc ...
