GIVI and Smotech, anyone have these??

Post by nixdsg »

I did a search but didn't find the system I'm looking at, hoping someone can give me some input.

I'm looking at the following and wanting to get opinoins on fit, function, size, and looks:
- SMOTECH quick release side and aluminum top rack
- GIVI E260 top case
- GIVI E41 side cases
- E102 backrest

I wanted the V35 side cases but they wont fit the SMOTECH side racks (please tell me I'm wrong). I initially was looking at the BMW system but I can't stomach the $1500, the system listed above is about $1000 (looking at Twisted Throttle). I also think the SMOTECH racks look OKwhen the cases are removed.

Your thoughts, please.

I HAVE THE GIVI TOP AN SIDE CASES--- GOOD STUFF, NO REGRETS. CLEAN FUNCTIONAL MOUNTING SYSTEM FOR TOP AN SIDES--- 2 COMPLAINTS ON GIVI-- YOU CANT CARRY AS MUCH AS YOU WOULD THINK AT FIRST GLANCE 2- IT DOES TAKE GETTING USED TO ,, TO OPEN AN CLOSE GIVI CASES AN IF YOU AINT SUPER CAREFUL YOU'LL DUMP STUFF UNTILL YOU GET THE LOCKING SYSTEM DOWN PAT. OH AN ONE MORE COMPLAINT YOU FIND ON ALL GIVI-- THROW THE RESTRAINING STRAP SCREWS AWAY--- THEY ARE USELESS. YOU'LL EASILY REPLACE THE OEM SCREWS WITH FAR BETTER SCREWS USEING AFTERMARKET. THE FACTORY RETAINING STRAPS WILL FAIL AN THEY WILL FAIL QUICKLY.

I have the 37 litre top case, nice mounting bracket very easy to fit - no complaints :D

I tried to get the same setup but was told by Motech that it would not work. Ended up going for the Givi complete setup and am very pleased with it the Givi frame is very strong and seems well made. I went for the E52 topcase and have not noted any effect on the bike even in high winds.

AGW,

Do you have picture of you bike with the bags removed? I'm curious what it looks like with the GIVI racks installed. Can you easily remove the GIVI racks for non-case riding???

Chitown,
I found 15% off from Nick's BWM in Wisconsin (no tax to mail from there). It's still $1540 plus $87 shipping for the complete top and side case setup. I can't get myself to spend that kind of money.

Thanks.

... if they ever show up.

I ordered some stuff from them (windshield mount, and hand guards) back on 15 November.

As of today ... no parts, no response to telephone or e-mail inquiries as to when I might expect them to arrive.

Good roads,
