Shad Top Case

Does anyone have any recent experience mounting a Shad Top Case on an OE BMW rack for the R1150R (04 if it matters at all)? I am looking at the 50L size or something comparable in the Shad system. Seems the contour of the rack is not exactly flat and I've read posts where people have altered the mounting bracket using the base of a GIVI, etc... to accomodate the Shad but wanted to know if anyone has used the mounting bracket Shad provides, directly on the rear rack. I understand Shad provides some rubber grommets that are supposed to account for the rack curves, but rather than buy it and take my chances, I figured I'd ask the pros. thanks

I fitted my top box to the the stock rack and found that it was not up to the job.
For proper stability you need something like the Givi SR683 carrier brackets. The top plate is specific to Givi boxes and won't be of use to you, but the brackets will fit behind the pannier rails and the Shad mounting plate can be drilled to fit the Givi top brackets. This set up adds some support to the rear of the top box mounts and makes the whole set up stronger and more stable.
I have been using this set up with a well loaded Shad 48 Litre box for the past 3 years.
Hank.

I have the SR 683 Givi box mount. It encroaches on the rear seat about 2-3 inches. The European racks FZ series don't, but you must do a cannisterectomy.
