I need some help, I think. I have a vent screw/bleeder that replaces the grub screw that is used when you flush the clutch fluid. Problem is, it does not appear to fit, almost as though it's too long. If I remove the grub screw, and place the vent screw/bleeder in its place, the screw bottoms out before I am able to mate the threads.
Any thoughts? Anyone else run into this?

Re: Vent Screw for Clutch Fluid Flush
Yes, had the same problem, and sort of solved it by grinding off the point of the bleeder valve so that it would screw in at least a couple threads, but still leaked, so I wrapped it with teflon tape to seal it. By the time I got it to thread in, the point at the bottom of the bleeder had been ground down to a flat circle about 3/32" in diameter.
I initially wondered if I would have been better off removing the filler adapter (the part with the ball-check valve and grub screw) from the fitting it is screwed into, and use the bleeder screw in that, but I couldn't unscrew it using two tubing wrenches, and I didn't think it would be prudent to apply heat to the assembly while attached to the plastic tubing, so I settled for the above solution.
I still cover the painted parts below it with aluminum foil to keep brake fluid from getting on them.

I had the same problem.
I ordered a speedbleeder SB1010S rather than using the BMW part. You have to push the bleeder in using some force in order to push the check ball in. It seemed like the part made contact with the check ball too soon - before the threads made contact. I managed to strip some of the threads on the filler adapter.
I will try grinding it down and give it another go.
They could have made this easier. It seems odd that you'd have to modify the BMW part to get it to work.

A little heat will do it...just don't go crazy.Sunbeemer wrote:..............

There's thread sealant on the adapter that makes it a * @$^& to remove, but it will come off...of course all the while leaking brake fluid...
After that a standard 1x10mm bleed screw and my MityVac worked great.....

Re: Vent Screw for Clutch Fluid Flush
I just changed fluid as well and thought maybe I'm doing something wrong. The thing appeared to not fit, I thought what did I get myself into! But it turns out that when I removed the resevoir cover(where you fill it) It allows the the fluild to move around relieving the pressure behind the little ball valve thig a ma gig and was able to screw in that part. Did the replacement and everything seems fine. Took it for a ride, shifted great and checked for leaks/levels looks good.

I had the same problem when I bought my bleeder, I ground it down as well, one word of caution, you have to be careful not to take off to much of the tip of the bleeder or it won't work. Just enough to get 2 threads on is about right.

Re: Vent Screw for Clutch Fluid Flush
I was just about ready to file the tip down when you offered your .02. I removed the res. cap, and used a small dowel to remove the pressure from the ball valve. Once that was done, the bleeder went right in.tmarshall wrote:The thing appeared to not fit, I thought what did I get myself into! Thanks again for the help.
