OPINONS ON AIRHAWK SEATS

The stock seat on my R1150R is punishing my ass, to put it in vulgar terms. Could i please have
some advice on a cheap remedy, it would be greatly appreciated. I can't afford a Corbin,Seargent,etc...I heard the Airhawk is the best way to go..thanks folks

Can't beat it for the price... and its "transferrable" to any bike.

May take a bit of fiddling to figure out how much air is right (too much and its too stiff, too little and you'll bottom out), but worth it.

Alaska Leather (sheepskin) is also nice.

I have the sheepskin, and it helps on the long trips.

My wife could only tolerate about 25 miles on the stock seat. Tried the AirHawk at a rally and ended up buying one. Seemed to make things worse for her. Ended up returning it and buying a Sargent. She can now ride 300-400 miles without a complaint

The difference between the stock and Sargent seat the stock is narrrrower and convex, it's easire to move around on but the shape is putting pressure on your tailbone. The Sargent is wider and concave, it puts pressure further out on your "Sit Bones". My inseam is 31", it's a bit harder to flatfoot with the Sargent.

Keep an eye on the various boards for a used set.

My wife and I both like our Airhawks. A side effect is that it effectively raises your seat 3/4" for more leg room/greater reach to the ground. Just be aware if your legs happen to be on the shorter side. At 6', I like the extra height, even with the "tall" seat. I'm able to go an extra 100 miles at the end of a long day b/c of the 'Hawk.

We swear by these things under certain conditions:
Iron Butt - mandatory;
knee pain - as noted, extra height makes big difference when seating position change is needed halfway through the day;
grumpy pillion "co-rider";
really nasty cold conditions - air insulation helps comfort nether regions;
camp chair padding;
sports events and hard bleachers.

With a good custom seat, I've avoided leaning too much on my Airhawk. Prefer the more secure "human/machine" interface of firm seat and semi-flabby butt; the Airhawk (or its competition) make the interface a bit less secure.

Airhawk is strongly recommended.

I was not able to tolerate the regular seat for more than 100 miles.
Nobody in my family was able to ride with me more than 25 miles.
I did try sheepskin and it made a little improvement for me, but not much for the pillions.
I borrowed AirHawk from my riding buddy for one day, but did not like loosing some control of the bike.

Two AirHawk cushions will cost about 250 dollars and will not guarantee 100% satisfaction for you or your passenger.
Russell seats will take care of you and you passenger.
In the long run it is cheaper to get it right the first time.
