She's baaaaaack.....

Post by awagnon »

I sold my beloved 2004 1150R last fall. I've regretted selling her on many occasions, but have replaced her with an F650GS. I came home the other day and she was sitting in my driveway. Sort of like a lost puppy, she found her way home. Turns out the fellow who bought her is having second thoughts about keeping her after buying a new twin cylinder F650GS, and dropped her off. So, I guess I have the option of buying her back again for less than I sold her.

The problem is, I don't have room or resources ( $$ ) for three bikes. I like having the RT for the long trips and the F650 for short trips, errands, and occasional off-pavement excusions. I really like riding the 1150R and think it's the prettiest bike BMW has ever made. ( I like it's looks better than the newer 1200R's. ) However, it just doesn't do anything the other bikes don't do better. Sigh.... I'll probably have to cast her out again.

See, now you've hurt her feelings and instead of "VVVVVVRRRROOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMM" when you rev 'er up, all she's going to scream is "NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"... :p

Just wondering what brand and style of engine guards you have on her.
I don't like the looks of many of those I've seen on the R (although they look fine on the GS), but these look rather inconspicuous and unobtrusive.

It looks like Wunderlich, I have the same guard on my 04 roadster.

Yep. Wunderlich engine bars. Easy to install and nice mounts already in place for lights. I'm thinking about adopting her again. Still got to convince the wife, though.

How long/miles did the other rider have her? Looks like she is in really good shape regardless and practically an RT in her own right. Bags, tourpack, engine guards, lights, windshield, high seat.

Either way, I hope a good owner is found.

The other owner rode her about 1,700 miles and had an $800 tuneup done. (which I would have done myself) It is "almost" and RT, but not as much an RT as my RT is. Not quite enough wind and weather protection for my tastes when touring. It was a terrific communter and bike for riding short trips.
