Amy and I climbed on our bikes and took a little ride this afternoon. Scenery was pretty blah, and we didn't go far, so we didn't stop to take pictures along the way. But, I did stop and check out an old grist mill that I wanted to see. And I got a chance to use my new camera.

Here's the Pine Creek Grist Mill. Built by Benjamin Nye in 1848. Benjamin is considered the first permanent resident (white guy) in Iowa.

You will notice no water wheel. It is powered by a water turbine in the basement. This is needed in Iowa where the ice would destroy the wheel in winter. Later a steam engine was added as a power source for times of low water. The mill is mostly operational today, just for demonstration, but it is still undergoing restoration. Soon, it should be fully operational.

So we wandered across the bridge...dizzy water picture.


When Amy squatted down, I thought that meant she was getting bored. But it turns out the sound of falling water got her bladder excited. We wandered up toward the old school (that is in the background of the squatting photo), to find the facilities. Here's the school bell.


And finally to the old-timey out house.


Boy was she disappointed.


I was too. The old timers were not much for graffiti.

Scenery looks pretty good to me!!!!!!!! Fun to get out even on a short ride, more so with SWMBO.

Kirk, does your wife know you showed her "plumber's crack" to the entire world on the internet?

Yeah, she knows. I told her I was not going to post it.

She said, "Why not... that's the best one."

Later that night, she asked me if anybody had left a message about the crack picture. She was disappointed that nobody had.

I told her you made a comment. Now, she is happy and said, "What'd he say,....he tell me to start wearing a f---ing belt?"

She's such a delicate flower.

You know... over on the Sport-Touring net site they have a "Hot Buns" thread. Tell her all she needs is a little more crack showing and she's in... Or we'll just start our own... she can be the first one...

Tell her from the old guy in pennsylvania, that the scenery is incredibly lovely in every way, and I mean it.
