Done Corbin a few times, bought a Sargent from ebay, it is vastly better in every way

Had Corbin's on both Ducati's previously owned, a Sargent on the '04 '50R I sold last year. The Sargent was a more comfortable seat (I know, apples and oranges, Ducati's and Beemers

) and was of higher quality construction. Best saddle I've ever had is the Rick Mayer seat he custom built for me last Fall on my '04 R1100S.
If you live somewhere close to either of the Mayers, Rick in No. Cal, Rocky in So. Cal, the best bet is to ride to a shop and have the seat made to fit you specifically. If you don't mind the "tractor seat" look, the Russell Day-Long seats get rave reviews from just about everyone....they're just not my cup o' tea.
Otherwise, of the "off the shelf" type seats I'd vote for Sargent. YMMV!
Cheers! Bill J

Here is my experience with the seats:
Factory seat ----------------------------------150 miles and I was in pain.
Sheepskin over OEM seat-------------------250 miles and the same story.
Sargent seat----------------------------------500 miles and I was in agony, the seat was hard like a rock.
Russell seat, custom------------------------1000 miles and no complains at all.
If you are going to ride long distance and you are planning to keep the bike for a long time.
It is worth to invest in a good seat.

I also have Corbin seats on my LT, but the bike already came with them.
Corbin seats are nice but a little on the hard side.
I definitely prefer Russell seats and especially on the R1150R, since the space is limited.
Whichever seat you choose, it will be a big improvement over the stock seat.
Good Luck.

Got a Sargent on mine, my butt is light on the natural cushioning so had to add an Alaska Leather sheepskin to make the Sargent more comfy. Now I can ride 150-180mi comfortably but by 180 I am ready for a break and gas anyways.

I had a custom Sargent on my 90' Mille GT and it wasnot much better than my stock seat. It was just hard. I had a Corbin on my 98' V11EV and it made the bike. The only reason to stop riding was to get gas. I have a Corbin on my 02' R1150R and love it.
Seats make a huge difference in comfort but what you wear is almost as important. If you don't already wear bicycle shorts and riding roomy riding pants, try it. In boxers or jockeys in Levi's I'm limited to about 100 miles before I want to sell my bike.

The consensus is probably that there is no consensus!
The most comfortable seat is probably some sort of custom, either Mayer or Russell. I had Corbin seats years ago on other bikes but I now have a Sargent and like it a lot. Mostly due the extra height helping my knees but the firm support should help the butt on longs days.
Airhawks, beadriders and sheepskins probably help also but I just can't stand the look and hassles associated with them.
