I am interested in adding another bike to the stable and am drawn to BMWs. I have never ridden one but like the looks and the standard riding position that comes on most boxers. Anyways, I ran across the following add on craiglist and was wanting an opinion about the bike from this forum.

http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/mcy/1219817292.html

concerns:
mileage seems high. Would you take some long distance trips on this bike (once you shake things out a bit). How many miles should I expect out of this bike before major issues start showing up?

cost of parts. Are the rumors about BMW parts being high true?

Does the price seem high to you? This will be my intro into the world of BMW so I might only have it 2-3 riding seasons before 1) getting out and goint to Honda or 2) selling and getting a newer, lower mileage BMW.

I plan on taking some trips on it so any caution regarding the mileage and multi-state trips would be appreciated. (I am hesitate about getting a fully fairing bike otherwise would be looking at the RT model. I have taken 1000+ trips away from my house on a Triumph Speedmaster so this bike should be much more comfortable.)

thanks for your input. btw, if I purchase the bike can someone point me to the next BMW garage day in Texas? LOL

Kevin...

ps...sorry for the rushed post...

That's not a "lot" of miles - mine's an '04 also, and I've got 61k miles on it. 'Course I ride the snot out of it. And to answer your question, if it's been properly maintained, you shouldn't hesitate to just get on it and ride off into the sunset. I know I'm not afraid to take trips.

Ask the owner if he has experienced the clutch disc spline failure and if so what was the disposition.......that has been showing up recently. Other than that the bike seems to be in order.
