So daryl, are you gonna finally put together a finger lakes bash together and show the rest of the country how NY is better than 99% of it?

I'm in.

=P~

Funny you should mention that.
MLW & I have discussed it several times & thought it would be cool to have a Fingerlakes Bash.

The time-frame I suggest is Sept. / Oct. when a local Mom & Pop motels might have cheap availability between Summer Guests & Leaf Peepers. Spring 2010 is scheduled for Tennesee (IIRC). The Arkansas 09 Bash is too far for me w/ my current schedule.

I've got a lot of travel for work over the next 4-5 months but if anyone's interested I can try setting up something impromptu between now & the S-word. Otherwise it's 2010.

Any interest out there?
The lakes are great to ride around, there's good food & plenty of parks.
I want to ride down to TN for the one Touchton's putting together, but I think the fall up here would be good.

How's the weekend after Labor Day next year sound?

Sounds like a good date. Will you insure weather for the ride up from Virginia is clear, sunny and warm? How about some clear cool nights as well?
General stuff as you know requires an option for camp or cabin in addition to motel central. Walking distance to restaurant with all three meals offered. Local gas station nearby. Oh, and very good, uncluttered and underused riding roads!

Diary Queen and cell phone coverage are also nice to have.

The weekend after Labor day is also the weekend following the 2010 Fingerlakes BMW Rally ( Labor Day Weekend) in Watkins Glen. You could all come to the Rally and enjoy the food, vendors, cabins, bands,etc...

Finger Lakes BMW Club Rally

+1

No need to reinvent the wheel, this club has it covered.

Bash within the FL Rally would be OK; but the low-key small group flavor of the Beakster Bash would definately be lost.
I advocate keeping it a separate event.
Retired geezers or those w/ lots of spare time are more than welcome to attend both.

So far we have
- me w/ MLW
- Scottybooj
- Mikecam

The list is growing;
MikeCam
Scottybooj
Johnyjs1
DLS & MLW

There must be some more Northeasters up for it; or maybe some of our friends to the North, eh?

Get outta town with that talk. I get drunk with the Harley guys each year in the back of the campground.

The Finger Lakes rally is first rate, if you have never been to one, that's sorry stuff.

Getting better; I've got a few locations scoped out, there's a lot of cool old-school places in the area.

Time for an update! Location. Roads. Local flavor(s). Exact timing.

DATE: Weekend AFTER labor day 2010.

MLW & I did some scouting last night on the GSA.
Lots of options; small town 'urban' w/ walking access to food (& drink), rural mom & pops w/ limited food access (grilling anyone?).

I recommend rural mom & pops, as everyplace has 'urban' fare.

Ride around Seneca, Cayuga, Keuka, Canandaigua, Skaneateles, Honeyoue, to see NY's finest Sate Parks & Waterfalls.

Daryl,

If you and YLW want help in setting this up, I'm sure Carla and I could help.

We are involved with working at the FLBMW Rally the weekend before, but this one sounds like fun.

Thanks John, much appreciated.
I'm a newcomer to the Beakster Bash, having only participated in the last two and getting ready to participate in the Harriman Bash 2010.

- everyone is welcome, however most are connected in some way to an R1150R, past, present or future via friends, family or R1150R.net
- format; ride there, hang around w/ people there (a little), sleep, eat, ride, repeat until Sunday morning, ride back
- door prizes / drawings as donated by attendees; usually T-shirts, wine, MC goodies given out on Sat night, ideally a group dinner occurs prior to this

It is my understanding that previous Bash's have only occurred as far north as Central PA (an actual hamlet), not to be confused w/ Centralia which is not far away. Scottybooj suggested that it would be possible to enlighten our friends from the South that there is much to be had in NY other than skyscrapers; i.e. sweet roads w/ not too much LEO presence. Between Lake Ontario & PA, east of I-390 & west of I-81 there's plenty. Good excuse for those of us living in the North to have some fun too.

Daryl,
No problem, sounds very cool... If you want to get together at some point and talk about this, we can get together at one of the FLBMW Saturday breakfast rides and go from there.

I have to come up with a few rides around the Finger Lakes region this year, one is the all day "Ice Cream Ride". When all the shops have opened for the season I will plot that one and one around the big lakes. Adirondacks in the fall is as good as it gets...

Don't know if I will make the breakfast this Saturday, if I can move my commitment to Sunday I will be there.

One challenge for me - NY state is on my banned list. Unless, Albany makes some substantial changes between now and then, my attendance is questionable.
