Ok, you have your beautiful new R1200R. What are the top five best BMW
options that you ordered on your new motorcycle? What did you order and
why are your options/accessories the best for you???

Inquiring minds and all that.

Thanks,
Motorman

In the order of importance (to me): ABS, Saddle bags, center stand, heated grips and the on board computer (could have done without the computer but it's fun to play with and it was on the bike).

For me: ABS, heated grips, center stand, OBC, and touring screen mount (for an aftermarket screen). I would have liked the system cases, but couldn't stomach the price tag...

The safety options — ABS, Automatic Stability Control and Tire Pressure Monitor — were must-haves in my R1200R search earlier this year. Most others are icing.

These are roughly in order of importance to me.
BMW Hard Cases, Rick Meyer seat, heated grips, BMW tank bag ( don't know if this fits into the "options" category but I DID have to purchase it separately and I almost never go without it ) ABS, Ilmberger hugger (non BMW I know) , OBC, center stand (although it is still hard for me to think of a center stand as an option).

center stand
touring shield (didn't like the aftermarket brands I tried)
heated grips
valve cover protectors (don't have the BMW ones though)
case rack with top case (side cases second choice)

I have the side cases but almost never use them. They're a bit overkill for driving to work, and unfortunately I do that more than go on tour :(
I have the OBC and it's neat, but not a must have.

Non-BMW options (as it seems we're getting into that) would be first a windshield (fairing), GPS,then a seat, then an assortment of BMW and aftermarket engine protection so I can feel a little better about bouncing the bike down dirt roads (usually on the wheels - but you never know). I guess the next big purchase will be shocks.

I use my bike for touring or weekend trips and usually roll something else out for day trips or around town.

For me its: ABS, heated grips, screen, hand guards, OBC. I've also added the panniers, tankbag, and engine guards.

"Tall seat"?

I'm getting reading to buy one and at 6'1" I could benefit from a taller seat. Is there a "Tall" seat, or is it just the non-short seat? In the catalog, it looked like there was only two seats listed: short and regular.

Thanks!

BMW offers 3 regular seats for the R12R + 2 comfort seats...
The regular, the low the tall (regular seat) + 2 aftermarket looking "tractorseats" in regular and tall...
I think the tall seat is a couple inches or cm's taller than the regular one and I like it a lot;more legroom and more cushion... ;)

I'm 6' 1" too - the tall seat made all the difference for comfort to me. I sit on the bike on in the bike.

Bought mine new off the showroom as it was exactly what I wanted. It had the Safety Package - ABS, Stability Control, On Board Computer etc. Not sure but I think all models sold in Canada come with heated grips as standard equipment.

Added sportshield, Touratech risers, and a RKA tankbag. Now I just have to do something about replacing that butt and back killing stock seat!

In my case: ABS, Center stand, Heated grips, High BMW seat, Hand guards, windscreen. Have side bags but use them rarely unless I am going on an extended trip. Otherwise prefer a tailbag.
