Where can I get an oil filter??

Post by WorkinMan »

Hey Guys,
I drained all my fluids out of my bike today after riding so that I can do my 6000 mile service, thinking that I could get an oil filter from one of the local parts places, and they all tell me they don't stock a filter for BMW's. Is there any place you guys know of that sells filters other than the BMW dealer? I don't think I can get to mine before it closes. Thanks for any help.

I saw the Bosch filter at advanced auto parts in VA, the same one i got from Beemerboneyard.com which is an awesome site BTW. I got a 12k kit from them with all of the o-rings crush rings and filters needed.

OEM oil filter. Identical to the dealer and far less expensive.

I've been running the AC Delco PF 53 since 2003 with no problems whatsoever.
Available at Advance or Autozone for under $4.

Thanks, Guys. And Happy Thanksgiving!! I am on my way to my nearest BMW dealer (about 35 miles away) to pick up an oil filter that they left on the back loading dock for me. $20 and some change!! With gas to go pick it up, that makes this about a $29 oil filter. Ow! However, thanks to you guys, I'LL KNOW BETTER NEXT TIME!!
I don't feel too bad though. I was looking through the previous owners receipts yesterday and I saw where he paid $85 for an oil change at his local dealer, and the last oil change he did he had them change just the oil. No filter. $72 and some change! It was like $34 for 4 quarts of oil, and $38 labor. Thirty eight bucks to drain the oil and pour four quarts back in?? I'm in the wrong business. How do those guys sleep at night?
Thanks again!

I bought a bunch of parts from one of the guys here and he included a Bosch 72161, so I believe you bought the right filter.
