Question for Naked Rider

Hi NR.,

I've been looking at buying a Megamoto lately and while there are some new and used available here, none are in my area to test ride. Having owned both yourself mate, I wonder if you can tell me what they ride like? I like the look and concept of the bike but wonder if there is much difference in handling /power compared to a 1200R?

Regards Mick.

I'd be happy to.

It's (the MM) a way different bike to me. It sits much higher giving it a higher center of gravity. It's MUCH longer too. The bars are wider and it becomes a factor after about 110MPH since you are really bucking the wind.

Seat wise the R1200R has it beat by far. The MM is narrow and caused me pain from about 40 miles on unless the road was twisty.

Power wise they are close but I like the way the MM comes on the power. Probably because it weights so much less.

Braking wise I'd give the edge to the Megamoto but only because the feedback is better. The front end does dive and for me that was real hard getting used to after so many bikes with telelever.

The tank on the MM is only about 3.5 gals. My light used to come on at about 85 miles. If I still had the bike this is one of the changes I would want to make.

The MM is really a single person only bike. No rear pegs.

The MM has an "attitude" that the R1200R just can't match and is much easier to ride hard since the suspension is so much better.

If I had it all to to again I would just start with the R1200R and beef it up. It's a much better all-round bike with the bigger tank and comfy seat - plus the heated grips. You have a fuel gauge too, something else lacking in the MM.

Attitude wise the MM is a great bike for what it was intended to be. You can SHOCK sport bike riders on one of these sitting straight up.

Let me know if you have anything more specific you want to know.

Thankyou for taking the time to write such an informed reply mate,

So yep as I thought it would be a great 2nd bike but expensive to obtain and in need of tank/seat mods, and possibly a Race Tech G2R front fork respring/valve if they are sprung up front like I think they might be. The local roads in the hills here are pretty rough. The trouble with small tanks is you find yourself topping up "just in case" a lot when they are 1/2 or 3/4 full before a ride. For the outlay one could get a spec'd out 1200 multistrada in a few months. Or I bet if I bought a MM BMW would announce a new double overhead cam roadster the next day! The MM is very expensive here and there are only a couple new ones left. Used are still holding their price too.

Or it would be far cheaper to put a Wossner piston kit, cams etc in the R12R.

I understand fully what you have said about it ...such a nice looking bike and thanks for the reality check, my wife will be most grateful.

Regards Mick.
