I purchased my new BMW R1200R June 2009. Love the bike-rode 15000 miles and parked it in Feb 2010.I Didn't use a battery tender and therefore when I attempted to start last week -nothing. Took the battery to my dealership in Indian Trail N.C. and was told the battery is "toast-1.6 volts and that they could order a new one for $158 and change. I asked what about the warrenty and they said neither BMW or their dealership will honor any warrenty claims on batteries- I said "WTF and I'll remember you too in the future". Went on Bike Bandit and bought a Yuasa battery for this bike for $88 including shipping. Has anyone else had problems with BMW covering battery claims? I suspect so!

If you call BMW customer service and complain, they will probably quote the manual: ". . . if the battery is not disconnected, the on-board electronics (e.g. clock, etc.) gradually drain the battery. This can cause the battery to run flat. If this happens, warranty claims will not be accepted. If the motorcycle is to be out of use for more than four weeks, disconnect the battery or connect a suitable trickle charger to the battery."

I would still call and try to make a case — the bike is nine months old. The battery warranty is two years.

When my battery 'went' I called the dealer and he asked if I wanted to come to him for a new one or should he have someone bring it to me. No charge. I think you should think about becoming 'upset'.

So you parked it in February of this year, and it's now March 22. So a little over one month? I'd expect even a BMW battery to start after only one month... maybe I'm being optimistic. I think I would have used a different brand as a replacement, though (Odyssey...).

I had a battery fail today while riding on my 09' GS, replaced under warranty by a BMW dealer after it was towed.

You could ask 3 dealers what oil to use or tire pressure and get 3 different answers, welcome to BMW dealership spin the wheel for warranty work...
I think it has to do with position of the moon when it comes to warranties.

Which Odyssey battery are we installing these days, PC535 or PC680?

Most likely you parked it on the last day of Feb. and it went dead in only 3 weeks.

I went with the PC535. I think the PC680 is just too large for the R1200R. Even the PC535 isn't a "drop in."
