Hi Guys
Today I decided to give the beast a service.
Air filter done :D, brakes all done :D , next the valves. :)

Everything’s ready and I got the left piston at TDC :D

Image

but would the feeler gauges go in, would they buggery :-k
I rechecked everything’s, yes it’s TDC and I the valves move and give small clicks so what going on?

Image

Maybe its’ me missing something but everywhere I have read I have not come access any mention of valve collars!

Image

So what now and how do I check these without removing them? :-k

She is an 04 1150R Twin Spark

Here's hoping [-o<

Basmaf - I may be missing something, and if I misunderstood the question, then please accept my apology. Judging from the second and third pictures, it looks like there is space for your gauges. You may be attempting to “gap” in the wrong location.

Image

Appears that the text in the picture is a tad difficult to read. The lines show where you place your feeler guages.

eh??

I thought the gauges went UNDER those caps.... aren't those caps on a ball joint (or similar) on the adjuster screw rod? (mind you - it's been a few months since my last service - I might be wrong).

You are right, was not paying attention when I drew the lines! Oops.

Bloody ell, there’s a procedure with pictures with it as well……. !!!!!!!

I have checked 2 different versions of this procedure, and the Haynes manual only to have it pointed out to me that there is one with pictures on it as well. :o #-o

The inlets on the head I was working on were just a wee bit tight, hence the feeler gauge didn’t go in.

Have you ever wished a big hole would open up so you could just jump into it?

Done the valves, 3 of the 4 inlets were a bit tight, the rest are fine.
Doing the rocker play adjustment tomorrow when I re-check the valves, just to be sure I did not miss anything after I spent 30 minuets calling my self lots of really unprintable names after realising what an arse I had been whilst checking the valves. :doubt:

I am most grateful again guys and will try not to ask any more stupid questions, (can’t promise though), while I finish this service [-o<

Going to the pub now to try and block out the fact that I have been such an arse.
If any of you come to York, I owe you a beer

Basmaf,

Enough with the name calling! I'd bet there are numerous members who read this piece and still have no idea what a valve adjustment entails nor why it is performed. You, on the other hand, have jumped into self-maintenance and survived. Well done. Top marks. And what not.

M

PS

Those high quality pictures get me all excited. A topless Boxer!
