Again, you'll just have to imagine it's a BMW I'm still riding. Last month I took a tour around some of the Southeastern states and one of my daughters decided she wanted to go. It's definitely one for the books... here it is.

Great report Ves! And mark my words. In years to come this experience will be recalled as one of the best times of her life.

Hi, Ves,

Looks like a great trip, thanks for the report. I think you captured the spirit of a 14 yo girl pretty well, having lived through two of them!
These weren't just nice roads, many of them were on par with the "Dragon" in NC. It only reinforced my thinking that this area would be great for a group get together.
I agree. After Arnie and I left y'all at Harriman we meandered up to the Lexington area and I thought the exact same thing, but what concerned me was the lack of services. Eastern Ky would be a great place for a rally, and if you found a suitable place (Middelsboro??? Cumberland??) please discuss.

God luck with that high school thing that Daughter #2 is embarking upon.

John

Looks like some nice roads! I think my 13 year old daughter thinks she way too cool to do something like that with her old man. Glad you had the opportunity to do that and thanks for sharing.

I know what you mean... this is my third 14 year old... got a 17 year old in HS already... and of course the 25 year old... she was the rough one... #-o

I mentioned in my report, I would seriously consider point A: Hazard
Image
Obviously the roads are all sorts of squiggly.
There's eight different Hotels/Motels within two miles.. everything from a Hampton to an America's Best Value.
We stayed at the Hazard Hotel... something like 94 rooms... pool... laundry... sitdown restaurant in the building... Since the trip I've read some really bad reviews of the place (outdated, moldy, incompetent staff), my experience was fine and the price was right.
Just seemed like it had everything we needed, without being in a big city.

Have to agree. It's an opportunity I wouldn't have missed. Course, it took three daughters before one would stoop so low.. :D

Great report, Ves. That is awesome you took your daughter. =D>

She was just faking her disinterest about the ride...she'll be bragging to all of her friends about it. When her friends say, "I wish my Dad was as cool as yours", she might even ask to go on another.

Ves - great ride report. Sorry I hadn't seen it earlier. You do such a good job of making the reader/viewer want to read every word and look at every picture. Great Work!

Thanks guys. Glad you enjoyed it. Absolute truth is that the photos I did take do very little justice to most of the roads we traveled.

It's amazing how different my trips West were compared to this Eastern trip. It's a contrast in almost every way; dry and sparse vs wet and lush, most roads run straight for miles and miles vs most roads that don't have a straight section for miles and miles, infrequent stretches of large mountains vs endless rolling hills... I was thinking what's better, West or East... but it's like comparing bananas to watermelons... :D
