BMW R1200R R1150R/T F800 K1200R R1100R/T R1250R RnineT Message Board

I came across a 2009 R1200R at a dealership in the greater Vancouver Area ( Canada ) The bike has 15000kms and comes equipped with Bmw side cases, a tall windshield, handlebar risers, centerstand, and Sw Motech crash bars. The bike has abs and traction control as well. I am not crazy about the look of the crash bars or the extra extra tall windshield ( I am a short guy 5'4" ) I am also not crazy about the color ( Blue ) ....but i love the fact the bike is a low frame model with the low seat....with my heavy boots i am almost flatfooted. I am 54 years old and am riding a 2009 Yamaha Fz6r...a bit too sporty and buzzy for me , although comfortable. I owned an R850R in the past and loved it and had a R1150R which i never was comfortable on. Didn't like the added weight , seat height and servo brakes. The asking price is $ 13700...bike retails new in Canada for just under $ 15000 without abs traction control or the bags....my guess with taxes and PDI, the out the door price was $20000 plus. At my age, and the type of riding i do and the added safety of abs etc,i really want to get back into the comfort of a BMW...I am familiar with the boxer motors and quite like them. Please try to convince me to get back into a Bmw.....My trade in might be worth $5000 tops , the bike cost me $8000 out the door 6 months ago. Thanks for your advice in advance.

P.S I also just bought a 1979 Honda Cx 500 shaft driven twin for a $ 1000this summer. I enjoy riding the Honda over my new Yamaha. It was the riding position of the Honda that made me want to get back into a BMW, the Sportbike is just not comfortable enough. Cheers

The crash bars, windshield and color can be changed. The ABS and ASC are worthwhile safety options, and the ASC isn't a common option. Sounds as if the bike fits you well. If you can negotiate a fair price, I'd pull the trigger.

For reference, I just traded an F800ST for my R12R at about that price, but the R12 had only 7,000km on it - I'm still loving the new ride and glad I didn't go after another R12 I'd test ridden - found mine in the stock on the floor after my test ride & the dealer had not bothered doing any selling until I got quite interested in it. I think they could do better on your price. That said, it doesn't really sound like that bike excites you. There's plenty more on the market, so why lock in on that one, with all those little things to bug you and have you second-guessing your decision forever and ever? Sure you can change all the extras on it, but add that to the overall cost, or call it sunk cost if you just get rid of them.
