Does anyone know how to decipher the number, probly a part number?,
that's stamped on the upper right side of the bellhousing?

My roadster trans has a 10 digit combination number and letter code,
but no part of it matches the transmission assembly number, or the
transmission front cover part number, for my bike in the parts fiche.

I am in contact with someone who has an 1150GS trans but doesn't
know if it's the regular or low ratio trans, it's still in the bike but his
engine is blown up.

Per the parts fiche, the regular GS can have either, and the GS Adventure
can have either, also. If he doesn't remember any mph to rpm in 6th
so I can figure it out, he's going to send me that 10 digit code.

Would appreciate how to figure it out.

The code on my 04 R1150R is 00027S2JAS, nothing like the parts fiche
listing for the trans assembly which is 23 00 7 677 008, or the front trans
cover assembly 23 11 2 332 967 or 333 072.

The number you gave appears to be transmission serial number not part number of transmission as number you are seeing is just behind timing plug on rh side of transmission case as "000####JAX" (is for 2004 R1150RT's) and your #'s has same style

My transmission in my 02 R 1150R is GAL. Any ideas?

Well, that's a code not listed in the document where I found
the codes. The list I found shows the 2003 & up starts with
the letter J, the ones before 2003 start with G, but it doesn't
show a GAL. The 03 & up list shows a JAL as being the low ratio
unit, so maybe yours is?

You could tell pretty easily by rpm in 6th gear. With the 2.82
final drive, the "tall"/standard ratio trans will have 21.3 mph
per 1,000 rpm, the "short" / low ratio trans with have 18.7
mph per 1,000 rpm. So at 60 in 6th, the high ratio will be
about 2800 rpm and the low ratio will be about 3200 rpm.

To translate, look for (free) Yahoo Babel Fish translator.
Open the German webpage, then the translator and copy the
address from the German page into the window on the translator
page. Grammer and wording comes out a little funky but you
can tell what the meaning is.

Here's a spreadsheet I made up to compare road speeds & rpms
of the standard ratio trans & final drive with other combinations
including 2.75 & 2.62 final drives and the low ratio transmission.

Thanks. I bought this bike from a dealer. One of the mechanics was selling it through the shop. It has a high 1st and a high 6th. I swapped out the final from a 2.82 (31/11) to a 3.0 (33/11). This bike had some Police flashers and stuff on it, so he might have gotten the trans from a Police bike. If you find out any more, let me know. Thanks.

I found out that all RTP bikes don't necessarily have the low ratio
trans like I had read when I started researching.

If you look in the online parts fiche, it looks like even the GSA's don't
automatically have the low ratio trans. It lists both the hi and low
ratio trans for them and actually for many of the R bikes.

They also make a trans with the hi 1st and low 6th - that's got to be
the worst possible combo.
