Battery Tender through Accessory Port?

Has anyone used/found success with a battery tender connected through the accessory port? I'd like to be able to easily plug in when at home without the alligator clips or a pigtail coming off the battery terminals.

no problemo on these older R's - some chargers come with the BMW pigtail
You only have to worry on the newer HexHeads as there is a handshaking routine with the Canbus with those special chargers

To resuscitate an old thread, I recently changed out my battery and bought an Odyssey at the recommendation of the sales rep at the dealership - he said it was way better than the BMW brand (and about 1/2 the price) with a lot more cranking power. And, I bought a BMW brand charger with the pigtail to charge via the accessory port - that was my idea as I, like you, was tired of taking the seat off all the time and charging with the aligator clips and my trickle charger. He also said you could leave it in indefinitely (as the unit senses the level of charge and goes to "maintenance mode" upon full charge) and that is what I do now - it stays plugged in 24/7 except when I'm riding and it is such a pleasure to use the outlet and save the time fiddling with the seat. As per the other poster, this is only doable with the older models due to updated electonics which restrict this seemingly simple charging solution. The charger unit was only about $60 - not obtrusively expensive - and my only regret is that I wish I had done this earlier.

Got my Battery Tender, Jr. on the advice of WebBikeWorld.com. I leave it plgged in 24/7 (unless riding of course) and have had 0 problems with it. It also lets me leave my heated vest pigtail attached to the battery without removing and replacing the seat all the time. Total cost, about $45 from Amazon with an extension for the battery tender leads and the BMW adapter!
