I added some antifreeze like you guys said but I'm afraid I might have used the wrong kind. I couldn't find anywhere to put it so I just poured it into the little hole on the left, grooved thinggy. Now the engine's making funny sounds. I used Prestone, it was green, that's all I know. Is there a special kind for BMWs? Kind of a knocking, grinding sound, and going up and down. I just didn't want it to freeze up because it's supposed to get real cold tonight.

Prestone's the right stuff, but maybe you should bring the bike indoors tonight just in case.

That's just the expansion tank. Did you fill it all the way until it started flowing out?
Top it off and that noise should go away real quick.

No one here felt any guilt , a few years back, when countless numbers of noobs destroyed their brand new R1150R motors by using the wrong type of oil, because of recommendations made here on this site. Why would antifreeze recommendations be any different? OH...I use the BMW brand...they make the best antifreeze for the R.

What about the intake thermocouple? Should I wrap it in aluminum foil when I store it indoors and what is the motronic reset procedure prior to Spring start up?

By all means, double wrap the intake thermocouple while the bike is in storage to protect it from UV radiation and bed bugs (it was reported recently that bed bugs have taken a liking to the material that encapsulates the TC, go figure)

I can't help with the Motronic reset procedure as it has to be spoken in German, performed while facing the bike and your physical location displaced 47 mm to the right from the bike's centerline.....gosh, why all this complication.

According to Flanders, prior to resetting the motronic unit be sure the small inconspicuous slider switch is set to the good instead of evil position.

Shop smart shop S-Mart, buy one boom stick and get the 2nd for 1/2 price.

I can't speak for others but my 1150R has air & oil cooled engine.

And someone has put anti-freeze in their OIL???

We yanks get a little crazy now and again and posts like this are the result.....yes they are comical, but very confussing for those new to the bikes. So, get yourself a good Ale, sit down and enjoy the craziness.

Note: The easiest way to change the oil on a boxer is to turn the bike upside down and let it come out of the fill hole. That eliminates havung to get on the floor to take the drain plug out, replace the washer and the oil filter will be drained and accesible for replacement. Hope this helps............

I disagree. How could he have missed the point? Can some one please tell me what the point is. I think it had something to do with the R1150's thermocouple and the programmability of the coolant thermostat. Wayne...please refresh us.

What the heck are u talking about?

Many years back (1985) there was a wine scandal in Austria where some ruthless winemakers added antifreeze to their wine (in order to sweeten their stuff). 1000 liters of cheap wine mixed with 1 liter of glycol. Hence did u drink this stuff?
