Low Suspension

Post by stogiepuffer »

Hello all, It looks like I will end up lowering my suspension but info seems fragmented. I am 5'7" with a 27" inseam. I have a 2007 with the low seat and I am on my toes when I stop. For those that have lowered their bikes with either the factory kit or aftermarket what are your impressions and what kind of prices am I looking at? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Guy

My first R1200 R was the standard height. With a 29" inseam, I was always on my toes when stopping. When a cruel twist of fate robbed me of my beloved 2010 Beautiful Blue Roadster, I was faced with buying a 2011 when they came out, or taking the factory lowered 2010 Classic Black Roadster my dealer had in inventory.

I grabbed the lowered one and I can say that there is a slight improvement in parking lot and stop light maneuvering. However, the sacrifice in ride quality made it not worth it.

Done Eilenberger had some custom Wilburs made that seemed to provide a lowereed stance without giving up ride quality. Do a search here on Don or go to his web site:

By the way, both Roadsters have/had the exact same standard low seat. The first one was so comfortable I thought it was the BMW Comfort seat. The new one kills me.

The engine on the new bike is way smoother and gets better gas mileage, 54 vs 48 mpg.

I'd love to know which days of the week the two seats and engines were manufactured.
