BMW R1200R R1150R/T F800 K1200R R1100R/T R1250R RnineT Message Board

I purchased my 2009 R1200R in August 2010, new. I live in Florida (read sea level) and when I rode out of my BMW dealer, I clearly felt a noticable lack of "snap" in the mid-range that I had prior to pulling into the dealership. I consider the Owner/Service Manager, a good friend and I have felt an awkwardness to approach this matter with him. Could there be a vacuum line pinched, a wire come loose, or a "test-ride tune" that was removed? My Roadster was a rowdy and snappy girl before I had my "maintenance" done. She runs ok now but she lost her "twinkle" at 600 miles. Any suggestions, help?

You bought it in August 2010 and you just went for the 600 mile service - is that correct?.

It's next to impossible to diagnose your question via the internet. I'd tell him what's going on and ask for advice.

Have you been riding a Ducati 999 in the meantime? That would tend to take the snap out of the R1200R...

Just a SWAG, but did they fool with the throttle body sync and/or valves? Either one can be problematic if not done correctly...

Sounds weird to me.
It's supposed to get snappier.... after 6-10,000 miles the motor will open up.

I'd not be embarrassed to question any work you paid top dollar for at any dealer, friend or no friend business is business. People who sell you things are supposed to be your "friend"....
Take it back to them is my suggestion, could be something like you mentioned. People make mistakes.


BTW, I didn't baby my engine during break in either.... running strong with many miles on it.

Thanks all! The experience of riding her and having her feel like a "rain-tune" has been selected after you take her out of the shop is disappointing. BTW, 4 days after I brought her home I had right wrist surgery and was off her for 4 weeks. I accummulated the 600 miles as quickly as possible after that interuption and got her in. I know that she power-wheely's in first and second has the handlebars "lightly dancing". I took her out to Arkansas and back to Florida and put 2400 miles on her in 9 riding days, 2-up in late May. She went in for her 6K and there was no change. She's got 8.5K now and we're looking forward to Fall and cooler temps.

I will speak to my friend and ask him what may have happened. I know it seems obvious but I know his health hasn't been the best and his "load" isn't light. Thanks again, Marc

Wheelies in 1st and 2nd? Sounds like you have plenty of 'snap'.

But without wishing to sound unkind, could your problem relate to your wrist following surgery?

Power wheely's in 1st and bars "light and dancing" in 2nd. It's the 3000-5500 rev-range, where we ride most that the "snap" has left. I dunno why? She was down-right rowdy before the 600 mile check-over in that rev-range!
