On my 07 R12R recently the LAMP warning light has come on, and none of the bulbs are burned out. The first time it happened I removed the high and low bulbs and replaced them using the same bulbs, the warning LAMP light went out. A month later the LAMP warning light came back on, again, the lights are all functioning properly. Can anyone advise what the problems is???

thanks

You may have less than a complete connection on one or more bulbs due to oxidation of the contact surface. This seems likely as you made the contacts somewhat "fresh" when you removed/replaced the bulbs.

Remove the bulbs, polish the bulb contacts with 800grit sandpaper and clean the socket contacts with a pencil eraser. Put some dielectric grease on the bulb contacts and replace.

That will fix you up until one really does burn out.

Doesn't the rear light have a feature that regulates voltage to the tail light filament in the event the brake light filament fails(to simulate a brake light)?? Seems to me that BMW has had this on bikes and/or cars for some time now. You might want to pull the rear lamp out and ck both filaments.

I've read of several cases where a rear bulb (any of the three possible, 'tho the R12 has only one) looks good and tests good but fails when in place. I'd remove it, clean the contacts, and try another.

I had it backwards, pg. 29 of the riders manual. "If the tail light bulb fails, the brake light is used as a substitute in that the luminosity of the second glow filament is reduced to rear light level"

Yes finally figured it out. I had previously installed Kisan trailblazer bulb, after taking it out twice, my poor eyes failed to inform me the elements was broken...............The aid of a flashlight proved the element had broken. Replaced the small bulb in the Kisan (they gave me spares when I made the original purchase, which lasted nearly 4 years) and bingo, the "lamp warning" light went away.

Thanks for all your input.
