I'm curious to know if anyone upgraded their R1200's horn? If so, what did you use and was it a tough install? Thanks

2. Not an airhorn. A set of RT horns.

Big downside to airhorns IMHO - even the Stebel (and I have one kicking around the garage) - there is a slight delay between the button and the noise. It takes them a second or two to build up pressure. That delay could be fatal.

Most likely not getting many replies because we've been over this so many times before. using search for 'horn' or 'Stebel' will return all kinds of information, pictures and part numbers you need for a clean installation.

And I have a Stebel Nautilus on my bike, wired properly, and if their is a delay between hitting the button and noise (big noise) coming out of the horn it's about the same delay you see when turning on your high beam (while the filament is warming up). Unlike some other air type horns the Nautilus has the horn mounted on the compressor and not remotely mounted, so as soon as the motor starts turning (when you hit the button) you have sound. The sound BTW, is unlike anything that a diaphragm type horn (or a pair of them) could ever duplicate.

I've actually mounted another small motorcycle type horn on the bike to use when I just want to let someone know I'm there,like coming up behind a group of bicyclists, a horseman or some times a group of pedestrains. The Stebel would just be too obnoxious to use in some situations.

I had a set on my old /5. The "delay" is far less of a hazard than the hazard you face when
the guy about to kill you can't hear your stock horn!

The delay was only a couple of milliseconds, and people would REACT as if they failed to see
an 18 Wheeler in the occupied lane they were coming into.

I have a Nautilus and will install it on my New R1200R.

If your horn is all that stands between you & certain death, something is wrong with your riding.

The horn, in my humble opinion, should be an offensive instrument, not a defensive one :-)

Don't think we got into the use of a horn, but I also subscribe to hitting the brakes first (as I'm sure most of us do), then using the horn. If you really want to get attention try attaching your driving lights to your horn. I can tell you from personal experience that giving someone a blast from this in the rear view is like hitting them with a proton torpedo fired from the Enterprise.

Great set of lights. What are they and where do you have them mounted?

Thanks everyone for the info and input. I think I'll be looking into the Nautilus.

The lights are Piaa004XTs, I mounted then on my fairing and the main reason I bought them is they are some type of plastic and are extremely light. I wanted to keep the weight at a minimum to avoid vibration. The pattern is somewhere between a fog light and a driving light which was exactly what I was looking for. Not the brightest or most expensive out there, but the whole kit can be had on the internet for around $150.00.

The forum Nazi *did* notice - big hand slap Harry! Don't do it again.

That's cool. However there is room for a pair of fiam air horns in front of the steering head. And duel horns have a very wicked sound. If anyone is interested I'll post pics of how I did it. It is a very fiddly job to get the trumpets to sit right, but well worth the effort. They have been on for four years now with no problems. When I go for my warrant and I'm asked to test the horn, I have to warn him it's gonna be loud

Please post some pix. We're facing winter and yours sounds like a nice project to copy.
