Hi Guys,

I have a set or Acerbis handguards on my 07 R12R, but they don't offer much weather protection.

I saw these on the Touratech website and wondered if anyone has anyexperience of using them?

Just a suggestion: you might consider adding some extensions to the Acerbis hand guards.

I installed the BMW hand guards with the little extension plus the Throttlemaster and am very happy. I finterested, I could clear out the cobwebs and look up exactly which ones I used, but I believe they were made to fit the R1200GS. My R is an 09. Good luck. dingle

I have seen lots of posts re handguards and I recall trying to fit a set to my R1150R. I ordered a set of GS handgaurds to to be honest the set I order where not the right ones. What I understand the older (per twin cam) GSs unist are the why to go. I didn't bother with my 07 R12R but I want to fit a set to my 11 R12R. Can you give me the good oil on which are the best GS hanguards to fit?

I just fitted a set of the current GS hand guards to my '11 R.

There are some metal plugs designed to connect the outside end of the guard to the bar end of the GS that DO NOT fit the R but a little imagination and a few cheap penny washers will do the job nicely.

Ancient Mariner has posted a great "How to" for the same technique. He describes having to fabricate a small bracket to connect the clamp to the guard on one side but on my '11 bike I found it fitted OK without this.

Interesting. I remember Barkbusters from my younger off-roading days. They list the S1 on their site as the unit that fits the R1200R, but on the product page it says:

Storm plastic guard with 7/8th (22.2mm) inner handlebar mounting brackets.
Designed specifically for street bikes and mounted to a single point on the handlebars.
Requires 18mm of free straight handlebar space to the inside of the handlebar controls.

So I'm going to do some measuring and see what my bars look like. I know the bars on the 2011 are different than previous years - Wunderlich says their current hand protectors fit up to 2010, which I think is weird. I'm gonna look at the GS install again too - maybe a trip to the hardware store is in order.

+1 on Barkbusters; I'm quite happy with mine.

Barkbusters looked pretty good to me the fitting hardware and coverage seemed spot one.

I had another look at the fitting video and it looks like to me S1 and S7 options would fit. The R12R in the video looks like 07 to 10 model. I live in Sydney so I happy to go and have a look if you have a question. To me they look like very clean off the shelf installation that has been sorted with replacement parts available. xprof has fitted these and appears to be happy.

Looked at the S7 too. I have a Kaoko throttle lock and I think the barend mount might be a little funky with that.

I ordered the S1 set this afternoon. Single point mount makes it super easy, an I don't think I need an aluminum backbone since I'm not bombing through the forest. Most of the time.

agreed for what you want S1 is a nice clean and straight forward option without engineering headaches.

I have the GS handguards on my 09 R1200R, but they do not fit the new models. Just got a red 2012 R1200R for my wife and the dealer tried every which way to mount the GS guards and gave up. They suggested the Barkbusters and we went with them. Coverage was just as good as the GS guards on my bike and were cheaper to boot.
