Re: Cutting a key Blank
Around here, any locksmith shop, hardware store or shopping centre (Mall) keys and trophies and shoe repairs shop does them. Cost is a few bucks. There is nothing special about the key. Just a standard double-sided jobby, and the fleabay ones are relatively soft to cut. I got a bunch from Honkers a while back to replace some lost ones.

Just what I needed to know.. Thanks
Re: Cutting a key Blank
OEM keys are made of stainless steel and most locksmiths can cut them but they might charge more than they would for cutting a regular brass key since the stainless steel blanks are harder and use up more of the cutting wheel they use.
The key you bought could be a brass automotive blank (used in BMW M3s I think) so maybe it won't cost anymore to cut.

I haven't found a single locksmith who will cut steel BMW key blanks. They say it dulls their cutters and they just won't do it.

Re: Cutting a key Blank
I'd heard that when I went in to a local storefront locksmith for a copy. I cautioned the guy that this was a stainless-steel blank, but that didn't concern him. Dolla eighty-five and tax. When I gave him the BMW key, he said he didn't have a blank for this, but when I slapped the BMW blank down on the counter...dolla eighty-five.

Re: Cutting a key Blank
I've had a couple of spares made too, ordered the blank from Gateway BMW in St Louis, took it to a hardware store in my town when I got home, and they had no problem cutting them for me.
