Hi All,
My name is Nikki and I'm new to the forum and new to BMW. This is my first BMW in all my loooooong years of riding. Last autumn I bought myself a new R1200R after trading in my old but trusty Yamaha Diversion 900. So far I've had an electrical problem which caused misfires and the last issue was the fuel gauge strip at 2000kms, so not a good start so far.
However I do really like the bike, it's comfortable and pulls really well in all gears and handles great for such a big bike. I'm going to be taking it down to Sicily in May so it will be a good test for it.
I got the almost white grey colour, with computer, small sport screen, ESA, Heated grips, BMW panniers and topbox.

I do notice when comparing to the Diversion which also had shaft drive that the transmission is quite snatchy. Especially when going slow (either in first or second gear). Maybe it's me expecting too much.

Overall though I 'm happy with it and hope to hang on to it for quite a while as I love the boxer engine.

Welcome. See the booster plug thread. I have one and it should smooth out some of that snatchiness.

The fuel sender strip is a common ailment. My firsat R12 had one replaced. My second R12 had one fail but the part systemwas all out of replacements. By the time iot could be fixed, it had sorted itself out. (?!)

Not familiar with the elctrical/misfires problem.

My first 2010 R12 was more comfortable even though they both had the same seats.

The second 2010 R12 motor is way smoother. The transmission shifts like a hot knife through butter.

Yes, I have had to have the fuel strip replaced and something funky about when I roll off the throttle and it back firing that they said they fixed but it started doing it again and that is in the first 1500 miles. Had nothing but problems with a K1200GT, sold it for the R1200R hoping it would be as reliable as my R1200GS 40K miles and not a single problem, R1150GS 85K miles perfect. So we shall see. just a few little things. Maybe it was a bad day at the factory.

Hi Nikki, I am Brit and am about to pick up my new R1200R in a few weeks. I've traded in my Bandit 1250 - a very capable and fast bike but gave little 'feel-good' factor since it looked like any other Japanese bike. Now we've had a few warm days I'm just keen to get the bike.

I had a Bandit 650 and traded that in for the Triumph. The Bandit was boring as hell whereas the Triumph is all smiles and excitement.

You'll love the BMW it's such a really comfy bike, one that you could ride all day
