Pulled the Trigger

Post by mgriesi »

Picked up a 2012 R1200R Classic this Saturday after obsessing about one for a few months now.

Love the bike, but now its time to start modifying this bike to fit my short 5' 6" frame. Just ordered some Verholen Risers, hopefully I will not have to change cables or lines. I am waiting on the dealer for the BMW hardbags, and the engine crash bar. I think the dealer is having a tough time trying to finding a crash bar as BMW does not make one for the 11 and 12 models yet, I am told. Anybody have any ideas who makes one for the 11, or 12 model.

I am also in need of a windscreen that gives max wind protection but I can look through, anybody out there with a 11 or 12 model that is as short as me. If so have you found a suitable windscreen that provides the above.

The R1200R is going to take some getting used to as I am coming off a 2009 Yamaha Raider (Cruiser). I loved the bike, the looks, the sound, the looks I got from everyone and being in Wisconsin a Cruiser seems to be the bike of choice here. The one area I did not like was since my feet were so far forward all the weight was on my tailbone and every bump was not so fun. The main reason for the change was my wife got her license last summer and we got her a 2012 Triumph Bonneville and I just loved how light and maneuverable the bike is compared to my 762 lb cruiser. I felt that I needed a lighter bike and I looked at the Ducati Diavel and it was great but I thought I would either kill myself or lose my license in a week, then I looked at the R1200 and it felt right. I drive a BMW car and love it each time I get in and drive it and figured I would feel the same way about their bikes.

I know everybody states that this thread is useless without photos, If someone can let me know how to post them, I would love to.

Now just my luck, the unseasonably warm weather that we had for the last two weeks has departed and it is cold and windy again.

Congrats! I picked up my Classic this past weekend as well (Nick's in DePere.) Did you get yours at Mischler's or Schlosslemann's?

Congrats to you as well. I bought it at Schlossman's.

What's Nick's dealership like, do they have a well stocked showroom with lots of accessories and clothing. Unfortunately Schlossman's is a little light on accessories. I would like to try stuff on or demo it on the bike before ordering

Congratulations to both of you! It is really an amazing bike.

If you are looking for windscreen that is tall enough to sit behind, I would recommend a Cee Bailey. I do not have one, but from the pictures I have seen on this forum I think they would meet your requirements.

Hope this helps.

I nearly bought that one myself (I live in Milwaukee.) I ended up getting a really good deal at Nick's. Their gear selection isn't much better than Schlossmann's unfortunately. It's a pretty small shop.

I came off a Yamaha Stratoliner which I also really liked. The weight and cornering clearance were the issues for me. I absolutely love the feel of my '12 R and think you'll find the same.

Best of luck with it!
