07 R1200R Brake Pad replacement

Getting ready to replace front & rear brake pads. Looked at Max's fiche and noted the OEM pads are approximatley $100.00 per wheel to replace them. What is the CW from the membership on other brands of brake pads, ie., EBC, I see there have "sintered" pads for both the front and rear from something less than half the $$$.

I have used many EBC brake pads and shoes with no complaints. I did buy a set of front pads for my K75C (not EBC) that were 'organic' not sintered. While they may be disc friendly (they claim)....they do require quite a bit more lever pull to get the same stopping power as my old sintered pads.

I hear the BMW pads are Brembo mfg. You may be able to buy them as a replacement much cheaper from sources other than BMW dealers.

I just replaced my rear with the ebc sintered. I mostly went with the sintered because motorcycle superstore didn't have the organic and I had to get a bunch of other stuff from that site. I was cheaping out in the shipping, which was free if I could order my pads from there. Anyway, it's only been a couple hundred miles, so I can't really report on them, but others elsewhere said they used the sintered rear from ebc with no effects. I just couldn't stomach the oem pad prices. Beemer boneyard would have been my fallback had I not tried to get a free shipping order from the other website.

Can I replace the rear pads without taking the calliper off?

From a look at the pads, they have an "hook" at the forward end and holes for the pin at the rearward end. So, is it possible to simply remove the pin (having first eased the old pads apart), insert and hook the new pads, and replace the pin? Or do I have to take the calliper (etc) off as well?

(I already know the pads are not the same thickness - the inner one is 1mm thinner. I plan on BMW organic pads coz I'm a bit of a rider of the rear brake and I gather teh rear disc is a bit on the soft side, so sintered pads might scar the disc, given my brake habits.)
