Looking for some insight from this noteworthy group of esteemed scholars:

Something transpired over the past year on my headlight lens to damage the surface. The surface has lots of little scratches on it that can be felt by running your hand over it. The R1200R has a Parabellum Scout fairing on it that isn't affected whatsoever. I've cleaned the bike, fairing, etc using typical auto wash soap, and likely used either "yellow cleaner", or "simple green" on the lens at time to help remove bugs etc. Do you think the yellow cleaner or simple green could have damage the plastic lens?

thanks

Certainly plastics can be damaged by using the wrong detergent on them.. CeeBailey has some warnings about that as does CalSci (if I remember correctly..) Some of the early '07 headlights cracked their lens without any provocation - BMW had a quiet warranty replacement program for them.. which unfortunately went into effect after mine did this at the start of a long trip, and I replaced it out of my pocket.

Don,

Talked with the service folks at MAX's they acknowledged history with the lens cracking, and being warrantied as defective. They asked if by chance I used an high output bulb, my answer was no still on the OEM, however I do run on high beam 99% of the time. Sadly in my case, seeing I'm outside my warranty of 36 months, I'm SOL.

Checked their parts fiche and the replacement lens is north of $150.00.

Anyone see one advertised used for sale?

Jim
