Allen wrench to tighten mirrors
Does anyone remember if it's a 6 mm Allen tool that you need to tighten the stems for the R1150R's mirrors? I think I am going to buy a "Topeak Supreme Folder" to carry around for things like fixing loose mirrors, and I want to be sure it has the right size Allen bits. The ones it has are 2 mm, 3 mm, 4 mm, 5 mm, and 6 mm. Thanks!

A short walk to the garage confirms that it is 6mm hex.

Tight vs. Vibrate
Did you think you'd see that Subject on this bb, did ya?
Anyhow, does tightening the mirror eliminate vibration on your bikes? My left mirror vibrates to the point that I cannot discern the make/model (if it's a crown vic or not)
But not so much for the right mirror.
Any ideas?

in my experience, tightening the mirror does not make it vibrate less
if you see flashing lights in the mirror, blurry or not, then you might want to stop
As an aside, I noticed that my local PD stopped someone, and the cop was in an unmarked white Dodge Durango. What the ? That's not fair. They should only be allowed to drive Crown vics, and old people with blue hair should be prohibited from owning Crown vics.

It is a 6 mm hex. Mine will get loose everytime I wack it backing out of my garage. Also, add to your kit a 9mm if you use the chrome oil filler cap. As far as vibration, it usually just the left side mirror. It was discussed earlier and fell under the "THEY ALL DO THAT" category.

mirror vibration?
I too noticed blurred images in my left mirror and relatively clear vision in the right.
My right eye is better than the left so I just switched the mirrors.
Things are so much clearer now!

6mm for both the mirrors and the BMW screens (sport and touring). And I don't tighten the mirrors to prevent buzziness. I tighten the right one to make sure it doesn't get so loose that it flops down while I'm riding it. A little tug every couple of weeks does just fine.
And shouldn't an allen wrench work as well as a hex wrench?

Yes, they all do that. Left mirror is always loose. I tighten mine every three rides.

No reflection on this thread, but you don't even need a hex or any other wrench to tighten the mirrors. Stick you finger up in there to hold it steady and rotate the mirror counterclockwise to the appropriate "loose" position and then while you keep the finger on the bolt head, twist the mirror back clockwise to tighten it. If you got it in the right place "counterclockwise" then it'll tighten up by hand at exactly the right spot.
It DOES take a little fiddling sometime, but it works!

Boxer.....your mental acumen reminds me of a ride that we took with some friends, a couple of them where Harley riders........well upon a stop for gas one of the fellows noticed that his rear brake lever had fallen off???
He became highly worried, snce we were about 120 miles from home.....l we had to do some serious convincing that if one were careful, it was OK to ride the bike home with the front brake only.........after a while he agreed upon.....but not before I had agreed to ride his bike home if he didn't feel comfortable......heck, my problem wasn't riding his bike home, it was the fact that he had to ride mine and I didn't want that to happen......
Well, we made it home after all, we left the ensuing kidding for another timely ocassion........
