FORK SEAL LEAK & SEAT SWOP

Post by zackvis »

Howzit my fellow r1200r riders (bmw r1200r 2009 classic black 28000km) best bike ever built.
I would like to share a bit of info .I started getting grease on my front shock tubes of late ,i was thinking to myself its a bit to soon for front fork tube seals to go,so i removed the dust covers and noticed a bit of water sitting on top on the seals so i dried the water with paper rag and sprayed wd 40 lube on the fork tubes and worked the shocks as hard as i could by locking the front brake .I cleared the wd 40 with the paper rag and put grease between the seal and the dust cover. The first 500km i got grease on the tubes again ,the excess grease i put in ,i removed it after a few rides ,but now it has all gone and the shocks do not leak any grease. So far very happy with the result .So I would recommend trying this ,if any of you have the same problem ,it may work for you .
PS i I WOULD LIKE TO SWOP A NEW STANDARD COMFORT SEAT FOR A EXTRA LOW SEAT .PLEASE
KEEP IN MIND I AM IN AUSTRALIA NEAR SYDNEY.CHEERS

Interesting. The geometry of the front suspension on our bikes prevents bouncing the front tubes when locking the front brake. If you want to stroke the forks, hold the rear brake and it will work much better.

Cleaning fork seals very often rescues them for extended service. These things work like magic: Image
Or, you can make your own out of 35mm film.
