Can anyone that rides this model with windscreen attached please email some detailed pics of how it mounts. It is a BMW windscreen. Thanks in advance for any and all that reply.

I can't post pics here, but if you'll post an email address I'll send a few of mine.

It is an "04" R with the OEM touring screen.

I don't have a pic (although this post really needs some), but there are four tubular brackets that it is mounted to. You would see them if they were there. The previous owner probably removed the windscreen because the bike is better without it.

I sent him some pics [PM] that should help . How do you post pics here...do we have to use a service?

Not the best pic of the windscreen mounts but hope it gives a quick reference: Image

Had a heck of a time trying to figure out how to tighten this one bolt that's loose on my windscreen mount: Image

Q: What is everyone using to access this bolt? Is it just an unusually long hex screwdriver? I don't have anything in my toolbox that will allow me to access this one bolt: Image

I was able to access mine with a regular allen key. Make a very small turn, then pull out the key and reinsert, turn again, etc... It's a pain, but it is doable.

You really need to get the ball end metric allen wrench to access easier. It's still a pain but way easier than with a regular allen wrench.

+1 on what Buckster has said. It is very difficult and will test your patience without a ball driver. It's an Allen style wrench with the end cut into a hex-shaped design.

First time I put a touring shield on my '03 I wanted to cuss it pretty quickly. A ball driver made the difference.

+2 on what Buckster says. A ball end hex wrench. Sometimes it can help to use -- it's a 6mm isn't it?-- a 6mm open jaw wrench to turn the inserted hex wrench.

that brings back memories of the misery involved with that task.

Does anyone have another windscreen choice except the BMW one I se on most bikes? I bought a used 04 1150R that came with a short dark BMW screen and replaced it with a taller version from Ztechnik, which appears the same as the BMW one. My issue is that it blows too much wind in my face, I'd like a different shape. Maybe something that curves up more than what I have. I looked around and so far haven't seen anything that might be better. Aeroflow would be my first choice but they don't have the mounting brackets.

What screens are you using?

This one suits me - Disclaimer: We're all different; it may not suit you

Martyn, would you be willing to post some side view photos of the Calsci screen you have? The Ztechnik is laid back quite on my 1150R where the older BMW screen on an 1100R stands more upright. I'd buy one if I thought it would work.

I'd be happy too, but I don't possess a digital camera ( I don't even bother with a mobile (cell) phone ) so I am a bit stuck to help here. :(

I can say my screen mounts & looks exactly like the one on the linked website.

hijacking, a little.

I have a curiosity about the windscreen. Mine appears to be "OEM sport screen" seen in photo

two questions:

can a much taller touring screen be mounted directly to those curvy stock mounts?

or, can I add a laminar lip, or something similar to reduce some of the "buffetiness" which would be better?

a friend has sorta challenged me to a long ride...a "little" more protection would be nice. To mitigate some of the fatigue. tuck behind when cold....

thanks folks!

Yes, they use the same mounts. I have both and can mount either using the same brackets.

If you check out the link on my above post, re the Calsci screen, that is a fair bit taller than the OE, & it suits my needs. Not too tall, which I think could be too big a strain on the mounts, but sufficient to give me some "calm air" to sit in.

I have had the BMW touring and sport windshields, but I prefer the little BMW "fly screen" that is just a little bigger than the instrument cluster. It keeps the wind off of most on my chest, but gives clean air around my head. I have used it for 4-5 years.
