fuel leak

my 2001 1150r has a leak. a first it was just a brief dribble. cleared up after 50 feet of riding. only happens after bike has set for several days. now i get a major leak that takes longer to stop. thought it might be fuel disconnects or loose clamp. fuel comes from up high under the tank and is not the disconnects. is there any history of any of the spigots that come out of that plate cracking or leaking? will replace fuel line just to be safe.
appreciate any ideas.....

If it has the original fuel lines, they are 13+ years old !!
I bet they are the originals and what you are seeing is a dry rot hardened rubber leak. You need to replace ALL those rubber fuel lines now. ANY fuel leak, even one that only gives off an odor should be dealt with ASAP. Read up in this forum about changing those lines and all 8 clamps, in particular the cautions when removing/replacing the rubber hoses attached to the $100 hard plastic lines that are part of the hidden away fuel pressure regulator.

does anyone know of those spigots that come off of the plate ever cracked. bike is very stock and never been man handled.

A) If you didn't it know yet, now you do: What CycleRob says is Gospel to us. Not because he says so, but because he is one of the most helpful, nicest and knowledgeable guys you'll ever meet, on a forum or in real life. If he told me to sand down my headlight and square my tires, I would start before breakfast. Seriously – this fellow is a fountain of knowledge.
B) Those fuel lines (and connectors) will crack when you are ninety kilometers/miles/paths away from civilisation and cell phone service. In worst case, your bike could go up in flames; I have seen pix of one and it wasn't pretty. So do it know!

Hi,
I also have a leak and discovered a cracked fitting in one of the fuel line quick disconnects. I plan on taking the posted advice from Cyclerob and replacing the fuel lines along with the QD's. I have never worked with fuel lines before...What do I need to replace the fuel lines? Type and size? I was thinking about using Jiffy-tite QD's. Anyone have experience with these?

Beemerboneyard website sells the fuel lines and quick disconnects you need. I bought mines there as many have done. They are good quality, will fit your bike (they know well), and have good price too.
