New highbeam bulb

Post by 1200bc »

I have in my stock of parts a 80 watt halogen h11 bulb. I'm thinking of using it as a replacement for my high beam bulb. Does anyone think the exra watts will be hotter to the point of damage? In the past I've had no problems, but in this plastic world I wonder.

I melted the wiring in an old airhead headlight shell with an extra bright bulb.
What is happening to my skin?
Where is that protection that I needed?

The piaa extreme white is marketing, not increased light output. The R12R headlight is about as good as it's going to get since there aren't high output halogens available in H11 form.

I'd suggest auxiliary lighting if you need more light. Besides lighting the road better at night, it can be used to increase conspicuity during the day. My favorites are Hella FF50's - but other people have other other favorites.

I have fitted to my R1200R ´12 a H11 55W Philips Vision Plus for the short beam and a H9 65W for the high beam, it only required a minor grinding on the bulb side. The upgrade worth the money. I recommend you to do the same and then, if you need more light go for the aux lights.

I have fitted this setup 20k kms ago and the lense is still perfect, i don´t think that the little time that I use the high beam could damage the lense.
