Am working SW of Vegas for a couple years, go into
Henderson (SE edge of Vegas area) for groceries etc.

Stopped for a quick sandwich, an older gentlemen
came up to me and asked if that was my BMW outside.

Turns out it was Mike Dobeck himself!!

He invited me to his home shop, what a setup!
Oscilloscopes and more electronic gear I can't even
pronounce along with huge computer monitors for
some astoundingly complex looking data bases.
He designs both the programming and the actual
boards. Made me feel like an idiot.

I've always prided myself on being fairly knowledgeable
about mechanics and tuning, even have worked a fair amount
with modern auto efi to modify the hardware and even the
programs in the ecu on my extensively modded "hot rod
Lincoln", but was dumbfounded at some of the stuff he
was trying to get me to understand! He had to dumb down
quite a bit and go over some of the concepts several times
before it "sort of" sunk in!

Fascinating!

He said most of his customers are Harley owners trying to
make their machines run smoother and more throttle responsive,
(imagine that!) so he rides a new one with his gadget in spite of
the fact his first love is BMW's. I was astounded at how
smooth it idled and ran around town! Must be something to it.

I installed a techlusion on my 2003 R1150R a few months ago, the difference was amazing! I thought the bike ran pretty good but once I installed it I couldn't believe the difference, it was surging way more than I realized and ran so much smoother at low speeds it was amazing, it made a believer out of me, totally happy with it.

nifty! Ive used dobeck "pot style" efi boxes on modified ATV's a few times.

"pot stylel" pretty well describes the way he was making his techlusions or whatever those gadgets were. He tried a prototype on my 1200 but didn't have the right connector plugs. The little board he had made (with the pots on it) fit into a 12 ga shotgun shell casing (!).

If I understood him, he basically doesn't fiddle with the steady speed calibrations of the factory system. He says they've already invested far more engineering talent, money, and time into developing that than he could ever hope to match.

He basically interrupts the high side of the up/down signal that the computer sends the injectors which results from the on/off switching info the 02 sensors when the throttle is into power mode versus steady cruise speed and his gadget keeps the computer sending efi signals on the high / rich side of the 0 point. I know that doesn't explain the smooth idling, but it maybe is somewhat similar.

Haven't seen him for awhile, maybe I'll have to go back and see if he still wants to put a prototype 1200 gadget onto my RT (!) if yours works that well.

Yes, that for sure was one of the coolest experiences I've ever had in the "automotive" realm - even considering that years ago a buddy of mine built and drove his own AA fuel dragster and held some records for awhile. Course, that was 4-1/2 decades ago ! so the technology was pretty crude by today's standards. But, come to think of it, 175 mph in my 66 426 Street Hemi was pretty fun, too.

Did it have 4 dials? or "pots" or 3? it is just a board, that alters the signal to the injector.

I liked them personally. I dont know if its the same for Beemers...but for single cylinder quads...it was pretty simple. It was almost like doing carbs, which IM familiar with (but hate) Basically you had fuel mixture (idle screw) , accelrator pump(think pilot jet), main pot (main jet), and then the pot to adjust at which point the main takes over. (this is like adjusting needle) its like doing a carb, without taking out parts.... and like FI tuning without the PC.
