Heated gear adapter?

Sorry for the nOOb question but what is the name for the style of power outlet on the BMW? IOW, when I'm searching for an adapter to run, say, my heated jacket liner, what adapter am I looking for? Is it a "powerlet" adapter or a "euro" adapter?

I have always known them as a 12v DIN socket

OK, let me ask another dumb question.

I recently took a long ride and plugged in my adapter (the same one I use for the battery tender, which seems to work fine) to charge my phone. No issues, charged the phone just fine (iPhone 4s.)

Then I tried to plug in my heated liner, because I was getting chilly.

Two blown fuses later, I started to realize that this might not work.

Looking at an online catalog for an accessory plug that goes straight from the powerlet adapter to the liner, it says this:
Accessory Plug
•Provides a direct connection from your heated garments to the accessory port, such as on a BMW motorcycle.
•This plug is not a standard cigarette lighter plug.
If your motorcycle has a CAN Bus system, you can only use this plug to power gloves. To power more than just gloves, you will need to install the battery harness.
Accessory Plug Kit
Isn't the 2002 R1150R using a CANBUS system? So is this the reason I can't power my heated liner?

What do you mean by "adapter"?
Which fuses are blowing?

No, the R1150** bikes are not CANBUS.

How about you call the BMW On-board Accessory Socket located in the starter cover the "socket" for clarity.

If the adapter you refer to is a wire with a connector wired directly to the battery, then there are some of those that are only rated for smaller power (like 7.5 amps) while others are rated for more(like 15 amps). For instance there are standard battery tender connectors with SAE ends (a male and female prong) that are not intended to run heated gear which draws much more power. You should get a connector rated for your heated gear instead. If you do an internet search you will probably find much info :)

I think I've got it sorted out now. I'm going to pull the tank this weekend and wire the SAE plug for the heated liner directly to the battery. This will also be my attachment point for the battery tender.

I'll continue to use the Powerlet for charging my phone, but I think with something drawing as much current as a heated liner, a direct connection is better. I'm thinking it's also better for the battery tender. Best of all, I already have the harness to connect to the battery, it was on my wife's bike before we sold it and the last thing I did before selling the bike was to pull that thing off, figuring I might need it.
