Pelican Top Case

I have been wanting to put a top case on the R since I commute with it. My laptop wouldn't fit in the side cases and the backpack was a pain.
I was trying not to drop a ton of coin on the setup. Even used, it was going to cost a few hundred dollars. I saw a used pelican 1560 on craigslist for $20.00 so I snagged it.
I simply did the cutting board mod to the stock luggage rack as discussed on this site, and bolted the pelican to it. Not easily detachable but it works for now. I might look in to some sort of quarter turn fasteners to help with that part. My laptop bag fits perfectly in it, and I cant even tell its back there while riding. Overall pretty happy with how it looks and works.
I spent $1.83 on the poly board at walmart, 20 on the pelican 1560, and $14 on 2 master locks and some hardware.

Looks good, and a great deal. I want to do something like that, but I need to get the right saddlebag rails. I have the rails for a GS.

That's exactly what I've been wanting to do. Looks great. I just need the case and the luggage rack to mount it on.

You can always put a full-size case on.

I did this about 7-8 years ago - it's still working fine.

The metal plate in the box braces the whole structure, and it's all held together with 4 bolts.

I've done long weekends away with just this box - it'll support more weight than you might think.

I love that yellow! Looks like a corvette color. Is it? When I first started riding again about 17 yrs ago (after the kids were gone) I started with a 1979 CB750 which was a basket bike. Painted the tank and side covers using paint mixed up by a local auto paint distributor. I asked for "corvette yellow". Looks so very close to yours. Love it!

I might do that in the future if I do more weekend trips. thought about it and then stumbled on the cheap pelican, so i went that route.

Looks good though!

Yeah it's corvette yellow. It definitely turns heads.

The previous owner had it painted to be more visible.

Thanks

Nice job! Perfect for the computer….better looking than my Givi…but I like to put the helmet in the Givi.

Remember - for quick removal you can undo the 4 bolts holding the luggage rack uprights to the pannier rails. it's a 2 minute job. ;)
